Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi, visited Bihar, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh (AP) from June 20-21, 2025, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs. 24,400 crores. His visit focused on enhancing infrastructure, housing, energy, connectivity, sanitation, and sustainable mobility.
- He also led the national celebrations of the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) in Visakhapatnam, AP.
Highlights of the Visit to Bihar:
On 20 June 2025, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated and launched 28 development projects worth Rs. 5,200 crores in Siwan, Bihar.
Railways Sector:
i.Inaugurated the new Vaishali–Deoria railway line project worth over Rs. 400 crores and flagged off a new train service on this route.
ii.Virtually flagged off the Patliputra–Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express, India’s 71st semi-high-speed train, covering 384 kilometers (km) in approximately 7 hours. It links Patliputra (Patna, Bihar) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh, UP) via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah of Bihar.
- With this, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh (UP) now operate a total of 28 Vande Bharat trains.
iii.Flagged off the first export locomotive from the Marhowra Diesel Locomotive Factory in Saran, Bihar, for shipment to the Republic of Guinea (West Africa) under the ‘Make in India – Make for the World’ initiative.
- India will export 150 top-of-the-line locomotives worth more than Rs 3,000 crore to Guinea over the next three years.
- This high-horsepower Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotive was developed in collaboration with the United States of America (USA)-based Wabtec Corporation.
Water & Sanitation:
i.Inaugurated six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the Namami Gange Programme(NGP), worth over Rs. 1,800 crores.
ii.Laid the foundation stone for additional water supply and sanitation projects worth over Rs. 3,000 crores across various towns in Bihar.
Energy Sector:
Laid the foundation stone for a 500 megawatt-hour (MWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project across 15 substations, including those in Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, and Siwan.
- Each substation will house batteries with 20 to 80 MWh capacity.
- This system will help reduce energy costs for Distribution Companies (Discoms) by storing electricity during off-peak hours and supplying it during peak demand.
Housing Sector:
i.Released the first instalment under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) to over 53,600 beneficiaries.
ii.Handed over keys to 6,600 completed houses as part of Grih Pravesh ceremonies.
Highlights of the Visit to Odisha:
On 20 June 2025, PM Narendra Modi visited Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to commemorate one year of the Odisha State Government, where he launched 105 projects worth Rs. 18,600 crores.
- During the event he released the ‘Odisha Vision Document’ was released as a forward-looking roadmap for inclusive development, aligned with two milestone years: 2036, marking 100 years of Odisha as India’s first linguistic state and 2047, commemorating India’s centenary of independence.
Rail and Urban Transport:
i.Flagged off the first passenger train to the Boudh district, integrating it into the national rail network
ii.Launched 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) initiative to promote eco-friendly urban mobility.
Cultural & Women Empowerment Initiatives:
i.Launched ‘Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana’ to transform the birthplaces of eminent Odias into cultural heritage sites, including museums, statues, libraries, and interpretation centres.
ii.Felicitation of over 16.50 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’, women entrepreneurs empowered under the Ministry of Rural Development, as symbols of prosperity and self-reliance.
Visit to Andhra Pradesh (AP):
On 21 June 2025, PM Narendra Modi led the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations in Visakhapatnam, AP. The theme of IDY 2025 was “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, emphasizing the connection between human and planetary health.
- Participated in the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session at the beachfront, along with 5 lakh participants.
i.The event set two Guinness World Records:
- Highest simultaneous participation in a single yoga session.
- 108 Surya Namaskars performed by 22,000 tribal students.
ii.Yoga Sangam events were held at over 3 lakh locations across India, including campaigns such as ‘Yoga with Family’ and ‘Yoga Unplugged’ on MyGov and MyBharat platforms.
