DEPwD, NIOS & NCERT Sign Tripartite MoU to Advance Inclusive Education for Persons with DisabilitiesIn June 18, 2025, a Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed among Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE); Noida, Uttar Pradesh (UP) based National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS); and New Delhi, Delhi Based National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in New Delhi to strengthen inclusive education for Persons with Disabilities (PwD).

  • The MoU aims to create a strong framework to advance inclusive education for persons with disabilities, aligned with the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
  • A Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), comprising representatives from DEPwD, NIOS, and NCERT, will be formed to monitor implementation, address operational challenges, and ensure timely achievement of the MoU objectives.

The event was presided over by Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar, MSJE, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Education (MoE).
Key Initiatives of the MoU:
NIOS Responsibilities:
i.NIOS will designate special schools funded by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) under the Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS) as Special Accredited Institutions for Education of the Disabled (SAIEDs).
ii.Educational levels offered: Open Basic Education (Levels A, B, C), Secondary, Senior Secondary, and vocational courses.
iii.Manage admissions, examination registration, distribution of Self-Learning Materials (SLMs), issuance of Identification (ID) cards, hall tickets, and certificates.
iv.Provide exam accommodations/exemptions for students with disabilities.
v.Offer Indian Sign Language as a secondary-level subject.
NCERT Responsibilities:
i.NCERT will review and adapt the curriculum and textbooks to NEP 2020 standards.
ii.Ensure content accessibility, relevance, and inclusivity for learners.

MoPR to Sign MoU with Bhashini to Strengthen Multilingual Access in e-Governance at the Grassroot LevelIn June 2025, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) will formally sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BHASHa Interface for India (BHASHINI), an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered language translation mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

  • This strategic partnership aims to harness AI-powered language translation technologies for greater inclusivity and enhanced accessibility in Panchayati Raj governance.
  • The MoU will be signed in the presence of Union Minister of State (MoS) Professor S.P.Singh Bhagel, MoPR ,  at the Constitution Club of India Annexe in New Delhi (Delhi).

i.The MoU will enable MoPR to expand multilingual interfaces across Panchayati Raj (PR) digital platforms  such as e-GramSwaraj, which allow elected representatives, rural functionaries, and citizens in rural India, to interact with governance systems in their local languages.
ii.The Government of Mizoram signed a MoU with the Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under MeitY, aimed to promote multilingual governance and empower the Mizo community through language technology in their local language, at the MeitY Office, CGO Complex in New Delhi (Delhi).

  • Under this strategic partnership, Mizoram will integrate BHASHINI’ advanced technology into the state’s digital infrastructure, providing government services, information, and schemes in the Mizo language.

MoTA Launches DhartiAaaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan for Tribal Empowerment
In June 2025, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) launched ‘DhartiAaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan’, the largest benefit saturation campaign in tribal regions, aimed at inclusive development and tribal empowerment.

  • The campaign rolled out from June 15 to 30, 2025, spanning over 549 tribal-dominated districts and 207 Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) districts, covering more than 1 lakh villages and habitations.

i.The campaign is a flagship initiative under Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, the campaign celebrates the cultural heritage of tribal communities while ensuring doorstep delivery of key entitlements.
ii.Through benefit saturation camps, eligible individuals are being provided access to essential services like Aadhaar enrolments, Ayushman Bharat cards, Jan Dhan Bank Accounts, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), pensions, scholarships, insurance schemes, and skill training programs.
iii.The campaign operates under the broader framework of Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) and Dhart Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), embodying the principles of last-mile delivery and people’s participation (Jan Bhagidari).

DCA Launches ‘Cyber Suraksha’ to Fortify National Cyber Defence
On June 16, 2025, New Delhi (Delhi) based Defence Cyber Agency(DCA) , under the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, initiated ‘Cyber Suraksha’, a multi‑phased, national-level cyber security exercise slated to continue until 27 June 2025.

  • The event aims to enhance cyber resilience through a combination of targeted training modules, evaluation exercises, and leadership-oriented sessions.

About Cyber Suraksha:
i.Cyber Suraksha is structured to simulate real-world cyber threats in a high-paced, gamified environment, enabling participants to test and improve their analytical and defensive cyber capabilities.
ii.The exercise incorporates hands-on challenges that promote secure practices and sharpen incident response skills under pressure.
iii.By combining immersive training, leadership engagement, and real-time simulations, “Cyber Suraksha” underscores India’s proactive approach to strengthening its cyber defence framework at every level, from operators on the ground to top decision-makers.
iv.A Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) Conclave is being held alongside the technical sessions to align leadership with national cybersecurity objectives. It features expert discussions and a Table-Top Exercise(TTX).

Skytrax’s 2025 World Airline Awards: Qatar Retained the World’s Best Airline ; IndiGo named as Best Airline in India/South Asia In June 2025, Doha (Qatar) based Qatar Airways has retained the World’s Best Airline for 2025, winning the title for the 9th time at the Skytrax’s World Airline Awards 2025 which was held at Paris Air Show, in the Air and Space Museum at the fabulous art deco Hall of Eight Columns of Le Bourget Airport in Paris (France).

  • Qatar Airways won awards in various other categories, including Best Airline in the Middle East, World’s Best Business Class, and World’s Best Inflight Entertainment.
  • Singapore Airlines secured the 2nd position, followed by Cathay Pacific Airways from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), China in 3rd place, while Dubai (United Arab Emirates)-based Emirates and Japan-based ANA – All Nippon Airways were ranked 4th and 5th, respectively.
  • IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market cap has been named as the Best Airline as well as Best Low-Cost Airline in South Asia for 2025 and it also secured the 3rd position among low-cost airlines

i.The World Airline Awards were started in 1999, when Skytrax launched its 1st international, annual airline customer satisfaction survey.
ii.These awards are widely known as the ‘Oscars of the aviation industry’, which is decided through international voting.
iii.This year winners were decided based on votes collected from surveys of around 22.3 million customers, from September 2024 to May 2025, and covered over 325 global airlines.

US News & World Report 2025 Global Rankings: Harvard Topped;  IISc Bangalore tops among Indian UniversitiesIn June 2025, the United States(U.S) News & World Report, an American media company, has released its 11th Best Global Universities Rankings. Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore(Karnataka) secured the 633rd position globally with a score of 48.4 and placed 181st in Asia, emerging as the highest-ranked Indian institution, reaffirming its status as India’s premier research university.

  • Harvard University (United States of America, USA) retained its 1st position globally with a score of 100, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA at 2nd with a score of 97.2, and Stanford University in the USA) at 3rd with a score of 94.5.
  • University of Oxford(United Kingdom, UK) and the University of Cambridge(UK) secured 4th and 5th position, respectively.

About Best Global Universities Rankings 2025-26:
i.China leads the list with 397 universities, followed by the USA with 280 universities, India (118), Japan (104), and the United Kingdom (UK) (93).
ii.India holds 5.2% (118) of all ranked institutions, reflecting its growing emphasis on research, international collaboration, and academic excellence.
iii.The report, developed in collaboration with Clarivate, headquartered in Pennsylvania, USA, assesses 2,250 universities spanning more than 100 countries.

  • The 2025–26 edition includes rankings for 56 countries, an increase from 55 in the 2024–25 edition, indicating broader global representation.

WMO Recognizes 20 New Centennial Stations to Preserve Climate Data & Global MemoryIn June 2025, Geneva (Switzerland) based World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Executive Council (EC) has recognised 20 new Centennial Observing Stations(COS). Each of these stations holds over a century of uninterrupted, high-quality data that are considered crucial assets in the global climate monitoring network.

  • With the addition of these new stations, the total number of COS has increased to 475, comprising 377 meteorological, 63 hydrological, and 15 marine stations.

Key Points:
i.The newly recognized Centennial Stations include: Namibia (5 stations), Vietnam (2 stations), Portugal (5 stations), the United States of America (USA) (4 stations), Norway (3 stations) and France (1 station).
ii.Among these 20 newly recognized Centennial Stations, Susquehanna River hydrological stations (in the USA) is the oldest station, which dates back to 1786.

8th India-France Joint Military ‘Ex-SHAKTI’ Commences in FranceThe 8th edition of India-France joint military “Exercise SHAKTI” commenced on June 18, 2025, at Camp Larzac, La Cavalerie in France. The exercise is scheduled to run till July 01, 2025.

  • The exercise aims to enhance the joint military capability of both countries to undertake multi-domain operations.
  • Exercise SHAKTI-VIII reflects the rising defence cooperation between India and France and will bolster strategic ties between the two countries.

Key Participants:
i.The Indian contingent of 90 personnel is primarily represented by a Battalion of the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Rifles, along with personnel from other arms and services.
ii.The French contingent is being represented by the 13th Foreign Legion Half-Brigade (13th DBLE), consisting of 90 personnel.
Key Highlights:
i.This latest edition of bilateral exercise will focus on joint operations in a sub-conventional environment under Chapter VII of the United Nations (UN) Charter, with training being conducted in semi-urban terrain.
ii.The exercise will facilitate a platform for contingents of both countries to practice and refine tactical drills, share best practices in Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs), train on new generation equipment (contemporary military technologies), and bolster physical endurance.
iii.It will foster esprit de corps, mutual respect, and professional camaraderie between the armies of both countries.
About Ex-SHAKTI:
i.It is a biennial training exercise conducted alternatively in India and France.
ii.It will enable both countries to exchange best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for conducting joint military operations.
iii.India hosted the 1st edition of Ex-SHAKTI in Chaubattia, Uttarakhand in 2011.
Note: The 7th edition of Ex-SHAKTI was held at Umroi, in a fully developed and modern Foreign Training Node in Meghalaya in May 2024.

IFC invests USD 60 million in Motilal Oswal Alternates’s USD 750 million fifth fund
In June 2025, Washington, D.C., United States of America(USA) based International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has committed USD 60 million (Rs. 516 crore) to Mumbai (Maharashtra)-based Motilal Oswal Alternates’ fifth private equity fund, the India Business Excellence Fund V.

  • The fund aims to raise USD 750 million, with a green-shoe option of an additional USD 150 million.

Investment Details:
i.IFC’s investment includes a co-investment envelope of USD 60 million, enabling it to participate in future deals alongside the fund.
ii.The fund will target 12 to 16 mid-market companies with high growth potential, particularly those expanding services beyond major cities to low-income states.
Strategic Support :
i.IFC will assist in enhancing women’s workforce participation across the portfolio companies through structured workshops and standard-setting initiatives.
ii.This marks IFC’s third collaboration with Motilal Oswal Alternates, following investments of USD 25 million in its second fund and USD 35 million in its fourth fund.
Note: To date, Motilal Oswal Alternates has deployed USD 1.1 billion across 50 companies.

Sahitya Akademi Announces 2025 Yuva Puraskar & Bal Sahitya Puraskar WinnersOn June 18, 2025, New Delhi (Delhi) based Sahitya Akademi (India’s National Academy of Letters), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture (MoC), declared the winners of its Yuva Puraskar 2025 and Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2025. The announcement followed approvals by the Executive Board, chaired by Sahitya Akademi President Madhav Kaushik.

  • The books were selected based on the recommendations of three-member juries constituted for each of the 24 Indian languages, following the rules and procedures prescribed by the Sahitya Akademi.
  • Each winner will be honoured at a special function, to be held at a later date, with a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and a cash award of Rs. 50,000.

i.In 2025, a total of 23 authors were selected for Yuva Puraskar 2025, with no award conferred in Dogri this year. The awards will be presented across six categories, including 9 in Poetry, 5 in Novel, 4 in Short Stories, 3 in Criticism, 1 in Essays, and 1 in Epic.
ii.In 2025, a total of 24 authors were selected for Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2025 across seven categories, including 8 in Poetry, 5 in Stories, 4 in Short Stories, 4 in Novel, 1 in Drama, 1 in Articles, and 1 in Play.

Sachin Tendulkar Joins Reddit as Brand Ambassador, Uniting Sports Fans WorldwideIn June 2025, San Francisco (the United States of America, USA)-based Reddit, Inc., a global social media platform, announced the appointment of Sachin Tendulkar, former Indian cricketer, as its new Brand Ambassador.

  • This collaboration aims to enhance Reddit’s engagement with digital sports communities and further expand its user base, particularly in India.

i.As part of the collaboration, Sachin Tendulkar will be featured in Reddit’s upcoming marketing campaigns in India and other international markets.

IN Inducts first Indigenous Anti-Submarine Warship ‘INS Arnala’ On 18 June 2025, Indian Navy (IN) inducted Indian Navy Ship (INS) Arnala, India’s first indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) warship, at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

  • It was commissioned into the Eastern Naval Command(ENC) of the IN, during a commissioning ceremony presided over by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan and hosted by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ENC.
  • INS Arnala, the first in the series of 16 ASW-SWCs, was built by Kolkata (West Bengal) based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited(GRSE).

About INS Arnala:
i.INS Arnala, built under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, was delivered in May 2025, at Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in Kattupalli, Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu (TN).
ii.INS Arnala is named after the historic Arnala Fort located off the coast of Vasai in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was constructed in 1737 by the Marathas under the leadership of Chimaji Balaji Bhat, military commander and statesman of the Maratha Empire.
iii.It is designed for a broad range of Anti-Submarine operations, is equipped with underwater Surveillance systems, mine-laying capabilities, Search and Rescue Missions; and Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO).
iii.INS Arnala is a 77-meter(m)-long warship, with a gross tonnage of over 1490 tonnes(t). It is the largest Indian-Naval warship to be propelled by a Diesel Engine-Waterjet combination.
iv.The vessel is powered by three marine diesel engine-driven water jets, making it ideal for coastal and shallow-water operations. With a shallow draft of only 2.7m, it can access near-shore areas that are inaccessible to larger warships.

  • The ship will be manned by a crew of 57 personnel, including seven officers.

iv.The ship’s crest features a stylish Auger Shell, symbolizing resilience and vigilance in hostile environments. Its motto, Arnave Shauryam, or “Valour in the Ocean”, reflects the courage of the crew.

Padma Shri Awardee & Environmentalist Maruti Chitampalli Passed AwayOn June 18, 2025, the renowned environmentalist, wildlife expert, Marathi author, and Padma Shri awardee Maruti Bhujangrao Chitampalli, widely known as ‘Aranya Rishi’ (Forest Sage), passed away at the age of 93 in Solapur, Maharashtra. He was born on 5th November 1932 in Solapur.
About Maruti Chitampalli:
i.Career: He served in the Maharashtra Forest Department, Nagpur, Maharashtra, for 36 years and retired as the Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests (DCCF) in Maharashtra.

  • He traveled over 500,000 kilometers (km) across India for ecological research, documenting tribal wisdom in 13 languages.

ii.Literary Work: Authored over 25 books, including scientific encyclopedias like Pakshikosha (Encyclopedia of Birds), Pashukosha (Encyclopedia of Animals), Matsyakosha (Encyclopedia of Fish), and Vruksha Kosh (Encyclopedia of Trees).

  • His writings bridged academic research and public awareness.

iii.Conservation: Pioneered wildlife sanctuaries like Karnala Bird Sanctuary (Maharashtra), Navegaon National Park (Maharashtra), Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary (Maharashtra), and Melghat Tiger Reserve (Maharashtra).
Awards and Honors:
i.In April 2025, he was conferred with the Padma Shri award (India’s fourth-highest civilian award) by the President of India Droupadi Murmu, for contributions in the field of literature and education
ii.He received Vinda Karandikar Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar in 2017 from the Government of Maharashtra.

International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict 2025 – June 19The United Nations (UN’s) International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict is observed globally on 19 June every year to raise awareness about the need to end Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) and to honour the victims and survivors of such violence.

  • June 19, 2025, marks the 11th observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict.
  • The theme for the 2025 International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict is “Breaking the Cycle, Healing the Scars: Addressing the Intergenerational Effects of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV).

Background:
i.On June 19, 2015, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/69/293, proclaiming June 19 as the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict.
ii.The date commemorates UN Security Council resolution 1820, adopted on 19 June 2008, which condemned sexual violence in war and for the first time recognized rape as a tactic of war and a threat to peace.
iii.The first observance of the day was held on June 19, 2016.

World Sickle Cell Day 2025 – June 19World Sickle Cell Day, also known as World Sickle Cell Awareness Day, is annually observed across the globe on June 19 to raise awareness about Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), a chronic and inherited blood disorder.

  • World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is officially recognized by both the United Nations (UN) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote efforts for its prevention, management, and care.

National Reading Day 2025 – June 19National Reading Day was observed across India on June 19 to promote the habit of reading and commemorate the contributions of Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker (PN Panicker), widely known as the Father of the Library and Literacy Movement in Kerala.

  • 19 June 2025 marks the observance of the 30th edition of National Reading Day.

Background:
i.The first “Vayanadinam” (Reading Day) was observed on 19th June 1996 by the Government of Kerala in association with the Thiruvananthapuram(Kerala) based PN Panicker Foundation, to mark the 1st annual remembrance of PN Panicker, who passed away on 19th June 1995.

Maharashtra, Kerala, Bihar, Odisha Sign MoU NFWPIS to Ease Credit Access Through Agri StackIn June 2025, the State Governments of  Maharashtra, Kerala, Bihar, and Odisha and the PSB alliance have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Farmers Welfare Program Implementation Society (NFWPIS) under Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW), at a National Conference on Agri Stack in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • The MoU was signed with an aim to enable seamless digital access to credit services through farmer registry-linked authentication.
  • During the event, the Digitally Verifiable Credential (DVC), also called the Kisan Pehchan Patra, was introduced to help farmers generate verified digital credentials associated with their particular land holdings and crops.

Key Points:
i.The collaboration will reduce paperwork and benefit small and marginal farmers across India.
ii.The Government of India (GOI) has allocated Rs.6,000 crores to support states in implementing digital agriculture initiatives under the Agri Stack Platform from the total allocation, Rs.4,000 crores have been earmarked for farmer registry systems including legal heir mechanisms, Rs. 2,000 crores will support digital crop surveys.

  • The funds will be distributed on First Come-First Served basis.

iii.An Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered chatbot trained on Agri Stack data and built using Google Gemini was also showcased at the event.

  • The chatbot can answer queries in multiple languages.

i.Agristack, an open-source Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) is a repository of all farmers’ information, including their identity, land records, coverage, income, insurance, loans, crop details, and revenue history.
ii.The data is collected through several sophisticated means, including satellite data provided by Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), real-time crop information through advanced technologies like AI, Machine Learning, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and visual analytics, etc.
iii.The Agristack system facilitates better decision-making, enhance productivity, and improve the overall livelihood of farmers across India.
iv.The formalization of farmers’ information through Agristack helps private businesses in accessing the data free of cost, which reduces the costs to onboard farmers to their platforms.

Bihar Cabinet Approves Development of Six Airports Under UDAN Scheme
In June 2025, the Bihar Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister(CM) Nitish Kumar, approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the New Delhi based Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Government of Bihar for the development of six small airports under the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).

  • Under this approval, six airports in Bihar: Madhubani, Birpur (Supaul), Munger, Valmikinagar (West Champaran), Muzaffarpur and Saharsa, will be developed to improve regional air connectivity.

i.An initial allocation of Rs 25 crore per airport (total Rs 150 crore) has been sanctioned for infrastructure development.
ii.These developments are part of Bihar’s broader initiative to expand its aviation infrastructure, with plans to develop a total of 15 airports across the state.
iii.The Bihar Cabinet approved the extension of contract for 1,717 retired Indian Army(IA) personnel currently serving in the Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) for the financial year 2025–2026(FY26).
