Overview of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Visit to Madhya Pradesh on May 31, 2025

On May 31, 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Madhya Pradesh (MP) to inaugurate, lay the foundation and dedicate various development projects.

Inauguration of development projects:

On the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of legendary Queen Ahilyabhai Holkar, PM Modi addressed the Mahila Sashaktikaran Mahasammelan (Women empowerment programme) at Jamboree Maidan in Bhopal, MP.

i.PM Modi virtually inaugurated the Super Priority Corridor (SPC) of Indore Metro, to modernize the infrastructure. Indore becomes India’s 16th city and MP’s first to get metro rail service.

  • The Super Priority Corridor (SPC) is a 6-kilometre (km) corridor, stretching from Gandhi Nagar station to Super Corridor Station-3, which includes 5 stations.
  • Five stations  have been named after famous queens and women warriors — Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, Rani Durgavati, Maharani Laxmi Bai, Rani Avantibai Lodhi and Veerangana Jhalkaribai.
  • It is designed to accommodate trains with 6 coaches.
  • The corridor is part of the 31.5 km Yellow Line, which will feature 28 stations at a cost of Rs 7500 crore

Note: MP Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has implemented a ‘third-rail system’ for the Indore Metro, an alternative to traditional overhead powerlines. This technology involves laying an additional conductor rail alongside the tracks to provide electric traction power to the trains.

  • A Super Priority Corridor is a designated road that receives the highest level of priority and clearance for certain types of vehicles for emergency and disaster management, Government diplomats.

ii.He inaugurated airports in Datia and Satna in MP.

  • Datia Airport constructed at a cost of  Rs.60.63 crore, located in Datia district, spans approximately 184 acres and is expected to handle two Avions de Transport Regional (ATR) – 72 aircraft
  • Satna airport developed by the Airports Authority of India at a cost of Rs.36.96 crore, located in Satna district, was inaugurated with an aim to boost connectivity in the Vindhya region.

iii.He laid the foundation for ghats along the Shilpa River and announced the construction of 1,271 Atal Gram Seva Sadan (Panchayat Bhawan), with an outlay of Rs.483 crore, to enhance rural infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed by 2028.

  • PM Modi performed bhoomi pujan for water resources development projects totaling Rs 863.69 crore. This includes nine barrages on Kshipra river (Ujjain, Indore, and Dewas districts), repairs to Kaliadeh stop dam, and 11 barrages on Kanh river (Ujjain and Indore districts) at a cost of Rs 84.78 crore

iv.He highlighted the approval of the Indore (Madhya Pradesh)-Manmad (Maharashtra) rail project, to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in the region.

PM Modi Released Commemorative Postage Stamp and Coin:

i.PM Modi released a commemorative postage stamp, and a special coin dedicated to Devi Ahilyabhai Holkar.

  • The Rs.300 coin will feature a portrait of Ahilyabhai Holkar.

ii.He also presented the National Devi Ahilyabhai Award to a woman artist for contribution in tribal, folk and traditional arts.
