2025 World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition Held in Netherlands

The 6th edition of World Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition, the world’s largest dedicated Hydrogen event ,was held from May 20 to 22, 2025 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

  • Under the theme “Navigating Challenges with Solid Form of Financial Investment Decision(FIDs)”, the summit focused on advancing the global hydrogen market by addressing critical challenges and setting actionable steps for industry growth.
  • Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), represents India at the Summit.

Note: Green hydrogen is a clean energy carrier produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity.

About World Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition 2025:

i.The event was organized by London, the United Kingdom (UK) based Sustainable Energy Council (SEC) and UK-based Rx Global, in collaboration with the Netherlands government, the Province of Zuid-Holland, the City of Rotterdam and the Port of Rotterdam.

ii.The agenda of the summit included high-level discussions, Hydrogen (H2) Technology sessions, and presentations from leading companies. The event also featured the World Hydrogen Awards, the H2 Tech Series, and site visits to hydrogen projects in the Port of Rotterdam.

iii.The summit featured over 700 global exhibitors and welcomed approximately 15,000 industry professionals.

Highlights of 2025 World Hydrogen Summit :

The summit featured more than 400 speakers, including global ministers, Chief Executive Officers(CEOs) and Chief Technology Officers(CTOs), who discussed key challenges in the hydrogen sector such as renewable hydrogen production, infrastructure development, policy frameworks, and investment strategies.

MNRE participated in World Hydrogen Summit 2025:

Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, MNRE addressed the World Hydrogen Summit 2025, highlighting India’s strategic vision and capabilities in the domain of renewable energy and green hydrogen production.

  • He also highlighted India’s transformative potential of Green Hydrogen to become a global leader.

i.He highlighted the installation of over 223 Gigawatt (GW) of Renewable Energy (RE) by India, which includes 108 GW from solar and 51 GW from wind, placing India among the fastest growing RE markets globally.

  • He reiterated India’s vision to achieve energy independence by 2047 and reach Net Zero emissions by 2070.

ii.To drive the transition, GOI launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) in 2023, with an initial allocation of USD 2.4 billion. The mission aims to achieve 5 million metric tonnes (MMT) of green hydrogen production by 2030.

iii.He also underscored the launch of Green Hydrogen Certification scheme (GHCS), the exemption of Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia plants from Environmental Clearance by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

  • Three major ports Kandla Port (Gujarat), Paradip Port (Odisha) and Tuticorin Port (Tamil Nadu, TN), identified by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), to be developed as Green Hydrogen hubs.

SECI about India-Europe Cooperation:

Sanjay Sharma, Director, New Delhi (Delhi) based Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) addressed a high-level session titled “India-Europe Green Hydrogen Trade”, emphasizing the strategic importance of strengthening India-Europe cooperation to unlock the full potential of green hydrogen in the global clean energy transition.

  • The key highlight of the session was the proposal of developing a hydrogen corridor to strengthen connectivity and create a resilient and integrated hydrogen supply chain between the two regions.

World Hydrogen Awards 2025 Winners:

The World Hydrogen 2025 Awards, presented at the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2025, recognized outstanding contributions across six categories.

  • These include Clean Hydrogen Project, Industrial Application, Future Hydrogen Leader, Hydrogen Transport, Port of the Future, and Person of the Year.

i.Bart Biebuyck, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Green Energy Park (GEP), was honored as the Hydrogen Person of the Year for his exceptional leadership in advancing hydrogen initiatives.

ii.The REFORMERS project has been awarded the 2025 World Hydrogen Award in the “Clean Hydrogen Project” category, recognizing its pioneering role in creating Europe’s first Renewable Energy Valley in Alkmaar and Heilo, the Netherlands.

iii.Jan Rongé, CEO of Solhyd, was honored with the Future Hydrogen Leader award for his pioneering work in hydrogen technology.

Highlights of 2025 World Hydrogen Exhibition:

The Exhibition featured over 700 exhibitors from across the globe, including leading companies such as Hyundai Motor Group ( Seoul, South Korea), Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (headquartered in Pennsylvania, the United States of America, USA), BP plc( London, the United Kingdom, UK), and the Port of Rotterdam Authority (Rotterdam, Netherlands).

i.These exhibitors presented innovative solutions in areas like hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and infrastructure development.

ii.The H2 Tech Series at the World Hydrogen Exhibition 2025 featured three specialized stages: H2 Tech Action, H2 Tech Insights, and H2 Tech Innovation, each designed to showcase the latest advancements in hydrogen technology.

iii.The exhibition also facilitated numerous business partnerships and collaborations, underscoring its role as a pivotal platform for advancing the global hydrogen economy.

India’s Juno Joule Partners with Germany’s Select Energy for USD 1.3 Billion Green Hydrogen Initiative

During the event, Hyderabad (Telangana) based Juno Joule Green Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hamburg (Germany) based Select Energy GmbH, to jointly develop a green hydrogen and ammonia export facility, at Mulapeta Port in Andhra Pradesh(AP).

  • The total outlay of the project is USD 1.3 billion (Rs.10,000 crore) and the construction is expected to begin in 2026.
  • The MoU was signed by Nagasharath Rayapati, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Juno Joule and Felix Danger, Managing Director (MD), Select New Energies GmbH.

Key Points:

i.The facility is planned to be built in three phases and will produce 180 Kilo Tonnes Per Annum (KTPA) of green hydrogen by 2029. The hydrogen will be converted into up to 1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually.

ii.The partnership includes equity participation, development of ammonia export terminals, port-connected logistics infrastructure, alignment with European frameworks such as Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) and Renewable Energy Directive(RED) II/III, and a long-term offtake agreement with a blended pricing model.

iii.The facility will use electrolysers powered by solar, wind, and hydropower, and a desalination unit to supply high-purity water.

Hyundai Motor Group showcases Global Hydrogen Leadership:

Seoul (South Korea) based Hyundai Motor Group, an automobile company showcased its position as a global leader at the World Hydrogen Summit 2025 at its Korean Pavilion, which is organized in partnership with H2KOREA, highlighting the global advancement of hydrogen technology.

  • Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chair Jaehoon Chang co-chaired a high-level Ministerial-CEO Roundtable, organized in collaboration with the International Hydrogen Trade Forum (IHTF), the Hydrogen Council, and Vienna, Austria based United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
  • The roundtable focused on aligning public and private sector efforts to accelerate the development of a reliable and inclusive global hydrogen industry.
