  • During his visit, the PM inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple development projects for the UT worth over Rs 2580 crore.

PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu: 
i.Inauguration of NAMO Hospital: On March 7, 2025, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Narendra Modi (NAMO) Hospital (Phase I) in Silvassa, DNHDD.
ii.Multiple Development Projects: He also launched several development projects in Silvassa, with a total investment of over Rs. 2,580 crore.
iii.He also distributed appointment letters under the ‘Rozgar Mela’ which provides benefits to beneficiaries under various schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), Gir Adarsh Aajeevika Yojana, and the Sylvan Didi Scheme.

i.Surat Food Security Saturation Campaign: On March 7, 2025, PM Narendra Modi launched the Surat Food Security Saturation Campaign Programme in Surat, Gujarat.
ii.Lakhpati Didi Program: On the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD), March 8, 2025, PM Narendra Modi participated in the Lakhpati Didi in Navsari district, Gujarat.

  • He launched 2 key initiatives: Gujarat Scheme for Antyodaya Families for Augmenting Livelihoods (G-SAFAL) and Gujarat Mentorship and Acceleration of Individuals for Transforming Rural Income (G-MAITRI).

Madhav National Park in MP Becomes India’s 58th Tiger ReserveMadhav National Park in Madhya Pradesh becomes India’s 58th Tiger ReserveIn March 2025, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) announced the Madhav National Park in Madhya Pradesh (MP) as 58th Tiger Reserve (TR) of India and marking it as the ninth TR in MP.

  • The other TRs of MP are Bandhavgarh TR, Kanha TR, Panna TR, Sanjay TR, Satpura TR, Pench TR, Veerangana Durgavati TR, Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary.

Note: Tiger Reserves are notified by the State Governments as per provisions of Section 38V of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 on advice of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
About Madhav Tiger Reserve:
i.The Madhav Tiger Reserve is located in Shivpuri district within the Gwalior-Chambal region.
ii.The TR will span 1,751 square kilometres (sq km) featuring a core area of 375 sq km and a buffer area of 1,276 sq km.
iii.As of March 2025, there are five tigers in the Madhav TR, including the two cubs that were born recently. Two more tigers could be released into the TR.
iv.As part of the MP’s tiger reintroduction project, three tigers, including two females, were introduced to the Madhav National Park in 2023.
Note: India is home to over 70% of the world’s wild tiger population, with approximately 3,682 tigers.

First Rear Fuselage for LCA Mk1A Handed Over to HAL by Indian Private Industry
In March 2025, the first rear fuselage for Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk1A, produced by Indian Private Industry, Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Alpha Tocol Engineering Services Private Limited, was handed over to Bengaluru based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in the presence of Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD) at Aircraft Division in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

i.HAL had placed orders with several Indian private companies including Mumbai (Maharashtra) based Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), Alpha Tocol Engineering Services Private Limited, Hyderabad (Telangana) based Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), Hyderabad based VEM Technologies Private Limited and Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu, TN) based Lakshmi Mission Works Limited (LMW) to supply key modules for the 83 LCA Mk1A deal.
ii.The aircraft is already in the manufacturing line, and HAL has already manufactured 12 LCA MK1A rear fuselages. With this supply, a major structure module produced by an Indian private partner will be integrated into the LCA Mk1A aircraft, enabling HAL to fulfill further delivery obligations for IAF from 2025-26 onwards.
Note: The fuselage is the central structure of an aircraft that holds the pilot, passengers, and cargo, while the rear fuselage provides support for the tail section and its related components.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

Sea Dragon 2025 Naval Exercise Commenced off the Guam CoastSea Dragon 2025 Naval Exercise Strengthening Anti-Submarine Warfare CapabilitiesThe Sea Dragon 2025 naval exercise, a key multilateral maritime warfare drill, commenced off the Guam coast in the western Pacific Ocean and will be held from March 4 to March 19, 2025. This high-intensity Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) exercise is hosted by the United States(US) Navy’s 7th Fleet and involves the Indian Navy (IN), Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), and the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN).

  • The exercise aims to develop ASW techniques, resulting in increased defence preparation and coordination among participating nations.

Background:
i.The exercise began in 2019 as a joint exercise between the US Navy and RAAF. Since 2019, the exercise has been held annually.
ii.In 2020, the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN), the ROKN (South Korea), and the JMSDF participated in the exercise.
iii.Four Quad members, India, Australia, Japan, and the United States of America(USA) as well as the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the ROKN took part in the exercises in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
iv.The 2024 exercise became a Quad plus South Korean exercise when the RCAF was not invited.
About Exercise Sea Dragon 2025:
i.During the exercise, each participating country deploys its Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) to detect and track submarines, thereby improving collective maritime security capabilities.

  • The IN by deploying its advanced P-8I MPRA, manufactured by Boeing(USA).

ii.The exercise includes simulated ASW drills, tactical discussions, and practical submarine detection training.
iii.Pilots and aircrew from each participating nation work together, exchanging strategies and coordinating efforts to improve their skills in tracking and neutralizing submarines.
Aim of the Exercise:

  • Improve tactical coordination among the participating navies.
  • Strengthen ASW capabilities.
  • Enhance maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
  • Simulate the hunting of a US Navy submarine.
  • Foster military cooperation among allied forces.

Dragon Belt award:
During the exercise, participating countries will receive grades based on their performance in several events. The country which earned maximum points will be awarded the Dragon Belt award.

  • The JMSDF has won the Dragon Belt award in 2024.

ITB Berlin 2025 held from March 4 to March 6, 2025 in Berlin, GermanyITB Berlin 2025 from 4–6 MarchInternationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB Berlin 2025), one of world’s largest travel fairs was held from March 4 to March 6, 2025 held at Berlin Expo Center City at Messedamm in Berlin, Germany. The motto of this year’s convention is ‘The Power of Transition Lives here’.

  • The convention attracted 24,000 visitors, participating in 4 stages with a total of 17 themed tracks in 2024.

i.The Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India (GoI) participated at ITB Berlin 2025. The ministry was leading a delegation of nearly 40 stakeholders from the Indian travel industry to showcase the vibrant cultural diversity of India  and the wide range of tourism products and immersive experiences.

  • During the event, Ajit Gupte, the Ambassador of India in the Federal Republic of Germany inaugurated the India Pavilion.

ii.The 25th edition of the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA), World Tourism and Aviation Leaders Summit was held at ITB Berlin 2025. This year’s summit was hosted by PATWA in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Goa (India).
iii.The PATWA, an affiliate member of United Nations (UN) Tourism, announced the winners of prestigious ‘2025 edition of PATWA International Travel Awards’.

  • Indian state, Goa made a significant mark at ITB Berlin 2025, as it has won two prestigious awards at PATWA International Awards. This has elevated the status of Goa as India’s premier tourism destination.

Glass-Ceiling Index: Top 10 Best Countries for Working Women in 2025Glass-Ceiling Index Top 10 best countries for working womenLondon (the United Kingdom, UK)-based The Economist Group, a media company released its annual edition of ‘Glass-Ceiling Index (GCI)’ on the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD) which is celebrated annually on March 8 worldwide. As per the index, Sweden secured 1st position globally, and has replaced Iceland which topped the index for the last two consecutive years.

  • Now, Iceland witnessed dropped in its ranking by one place i.e. from 1st spot (in 2024) to 2nd spot (in 2025).
  • Among top 10 best countries for working women in 2025, 5 are Nordic countries: Sweden, Iceland, Finland (3rd), Norway (4th) and Denmark (9th).

i.The index evaluated the working conditions for women across the 29 countries that are members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
ii.New Zealand emerged as the improved country on the index, moving up by 8 places to 6th spot.
iii.Bottom 3 countries on the index are: Japan (27th), South Korea (28th) and Turkey (29th).

  • The report cited these 3 countries are influenced by deep-rooted societal norms and wage gap, which are the main factors for under-representation of women in leadership roles.

Indian Navy’s 1st Training Squadron Completes Thailand Visit
In March 2025, the Indian Navy’s (IN) First Training Squadron (1TS), consisting of Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sujata, INS Shardul, and Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Veera, successfully concluded its visit to Phuket Deep Sea Port in Thailand. The visit concluded on a high note with coordinated tactical maneuvers and an exchange of sea riders during a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with His Thai Majesty’s Ship (HTMS) Huahin, a patrol gunboat of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN).

  • The visit strengthened the robust bilateral relations between IN and RTN, in line with India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision.
  • It boosted maritime cooperation, interoperability, and mutual understanding, further contributing to the regional security and stability of both nations.

i.The visit, which started on March 1, 2025, was part of the 1TS’s ongoing training deployment to South East Asia and concluded on March 4, 2025.
ii.Captain Anshul Kishore, Senior Officer of 1TS, along with the Commanding Officers of the ships, met Vice Admiral Suwat Donsakul, Commander of the 3rd Naval Area Command of the RTN, to discuss regional security, joint training exercises, and goodwill activities.
Note: The 1TS is a unit of the IN responsible for training naval personnel. It includes ships such as INS Sujata, INS Shardul, and ICGS Veera, which are deployed for operational training and international engagements.

WMO Launches iClimate Action Project to Boost Global Climate Intelligence
In March 2025, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in collaboration with the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), and the European Commission, launched the iClimateAction project in Geneva, Switzerland.

  • The initiative is backed by the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2023-2025, which aims to address critical gaps in Earth observation and enhance global climate resilience.
  • It coincides with WMO’s 75th anniversary on March 23, 2025, highlighting the organization’s commitment to science-driven innovation and global collaboration.

i.The iClimateAction project, funded with 3 million Euros from the European Commission, aims to enhance coordination and synergy among GCOS, GEO, and WMO, improving international alignment in the creation, management, and use of climate data.
ii.It tackles fragmentation in climate data collection and access by standardizing Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) and enhancing compatibility across observation networks, making climate data more accessible and useful for scientists, policymakers, and communities worldwide.
iii.It supports key initiatives like Early Warnings for All, the Global Greenhouse Gas Watch, and GEO projects such as the Global Heat Resilience Service and the Global Ecosystems Atlas, transforming climate data into life-saving strategies.
iv.193 member states and territories of WMO will benefit from enhanced climate intelligence, paving the way for smarter, science-driven climate action.

CIL Signs MoU with IIT Hyderabad to Establish CLEANZ in Telangana
In March 2025, Kolkata (West Bengal, WB) based Coal India Limited (CIL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology of Hyderabad (IIT-Hyderabad), Telangana  for establishing a Centre of Clean Coal Energy and Net Zero (CLEANZ) in Hyderabad.

  • The MoU was exchanged between P M Prasad, Chairman and Managing Director(CMD) of CIL and Acharya B S Murthy, director of IIT-H in the presence of Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Ministry of Coal (MoC) and Ministry of Mines (MoM).

i.The initiative aims to develop clean coal technologies and diversify coal consumption. Both entities will work together to establish cutting-edge technological readiness levels (TRLs) for the long-term use of Indian coal.
ii.The management of CIL has approved a five-year grant of Rs 98 crores to IIT Hyderabad for a five-year period for the establishment of this Center of Excellence. After the initial five-year investment from CIL, it is expected to achieve financial sustainability in the long term.
iii.This collaboration is part of the National Centre for Coal and Energy Research (NaCCER), an independent Research and Development (R&D) unit of the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), which serves as CIL’s mine development and consultancy arm.

Brand Finance Insurance 100 – 2025: LIC Ranks 3rd Among World’s Strongest Insurance BrandsBrand Finance Insurance 100 2025 LIC Ranked World’s 3rd Strongest Insurance BrandAccording to the Brand Finance Insurance 100 – 2025 report,  the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, has been ranked third among the world’s strongest insurance brands, achieving a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 88 out of 100. In terms of overall brand value, LIC holds the 12th position globally among the most valuable insurance brands.

  • Poland-based PZU,  has secured the top position among the world’s strongest insurance brands with a BSI score of 94.4 with AAA+ brand rating. It is followed by China Life Insurance (AAA+ brand rating) which holds the second position with a BSI score of 93.5.
  • The report highlights that the top 100 insurance brands have witnessed a 9% increase in brand value in 2025, driven by factors such as better underwriting performance, higher investment income, rising interest rates (IR), and improved profitability.

Note: Brand Finance releases the Insurance 100 report annually, ranking the world’s most valuable and strongest insurance brands based on their market performance and brand strength.

i.Ping An Insurance has retained its position as the most valuable insurance brand for the ninth consecutive year, maintaining a brand value of USD 33.6 billion.
ii.Allianz has seen a 9% increase in its brand value, reaching USD 26.7 billion.
iii.Nissay/Nippon Life Insurance has experienced the fastest growth, with its brand value rising by 94% to USD 9.2 billion.

Honda Motor Company Limited Appoints Takashi Nakajima as New President & CEO of HCILOn 10 March 2025, Tokyo (Japan) based Honda Motor Company Limited appointed Takashi Nakajima as the new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Noida (Uttar Pradesh, UP) based Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) effective from 1 April 2025.

  • He will succeed Takuya Tsumura, who moves to Honda’s head office in Japan after completing his tenure in India.

i.Takashi Nakajima joined Honda in 1994 and has been there for more than 30 years. He has held various positions in business planning, product planning, marketing, and sales promotion in countries like Japan, China, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Russia.
ii.Since 2021, he has been the President at Honda Motor Russia. He was also in charge of corporate communication, marketing, and product planning for Honda’s car business in Japan.

He secured the title with a score of 6 points, concluding the tournament with a draw against Gurel Ediz of Turkey in the ninth and final round.

  • After this win his rating rose by 5.0 Elo points, pushing him to World No. 14 in the live rankings.

i.Aravindh Chithambaram’s victory was confirmed when World No. 8 Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa finished tied second with 5 points after losing to Dutchman Anish Giri.
ii.In other final-round matches, Czech Republic’s David Navara drew against American Grandmaster Sam Shankland. Another Czech player, Nguyen Thai Dai Van, came close to winning against Germany’s Vincent Keymer.
iii.Meanwhile, in the Challengers’ section, India’s Divya Deshmukh ended on a strong note with a victory over Greece’s Stamatis Kourkoulos-Arditis. Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Yakubboev and Denmark’s Jonas Buhk Bjerre shared the top position in this category with seven points each.

India Clinches ‘2025 Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship Title’ for the 5th time, by Defeating IranIndia Clinch 5th Asian Women’s Kabaddi Title, Defeat Iran 32-25 in FinalOn March 8, 2025, the Indian women’s Kabaddi team won the ‘6th Edition of Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship titleby defeating Iran women’s Kabaddi team  32-25 in the final held in Tehran, Iran. The victory marked India’s 5th win in the history of the tournament, having previously won in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2017 except in 2016 where South Korea claimed the title.

  • The Indian Team was Led by captain Sonali Shingate as the defending champion.

About Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025:
i.The Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025 was held from March 6 to 8, 2025, in Tehran, with 7 teams competing.

  • It was the 3rd time that Iran was hosting the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship having hosted it in 2007 and 2017.

ii.The teams were divided into two groups: Group A included India, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia, while Group B consisted of Iran, Nepal, and Iraq.
iii.Each team played in a round-robin format, and the top 2 teams from each group advanced to the semifinals.
Highlights:
i.In the group stage, India secured commanding victories, defeating Bangladesh (64-23), Thailand (76-21), and Nepal (47-14).
ii.In the semifinal, they triumphed over Nepal 56-18 to set up a final showdown with Iran.
Note: India is to host the second edition of the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup at the state-of-the-art Indoor facilities at the Rajgir Sports Academy in Rajgir, Bihar.

In March 2025, Renowned classical singer and former Asthana Vidwan of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Garimella Balakrishna Prasad passed away in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh (AP). He was born on 9 November 1948 in Rajahmundry, AP.

iii.He composed tunes for nearly 1400 songs written by various poets. Almost 1,000 of these were Annamacharya Sankeertanas.
iv.He achieved a remarkable feat by singing 300 keertanas non-stop and composing over 600 Annamayya keertanas, establishing him as a legendary artist.
v.With over 6,000 concerts under his name, he was also the lead singer at the historic “Laksha Galarchana” event, organized by Silicon Andhra at Secunderabad Parade Ground, Hyderabad, Telangana, which entered the Guinness Book of World Records.

  • According to the Report “Women’s Rights in Review 30 Years After Beijing”, nearly a quarter (25%) of governments worldwide reported a decline in women’s rights in 2024.

2.Various launches, releases, and honours were held in India to mark the IWD 2025 including:
i.A Cyber Security Handbook for Mahila Suraksha by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) empowering cyber hygiene practices for women.
ii.The Legislative Department, Ministry of Law & Justice (MoL&J), formally released “The Life and Contributions of the Women Members of the Constituent Assembly” a book to pay tribute to 15 remarkable women, who played a crucial role in drafting the Indian Constitution.
iii.The Kochi (Kerala)-based Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) was honoured 2 women entrepreneurs, Akhilamol M A, and Sangeetha Sunil for their achievements in the fisheries sector
iv.Tracxn Technologies Limited released the Women-led Startups in India Report 2025, revealing that the technology (tech) startupsco-led by women secured only USD 1 billion in funding in 2024, reflecting a 25% Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) decline.

History of CISF:

iii.It came into effect on 10th March 1969 and functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

i.On March 7, 2025, Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and Ministry of Cooperation (MoC) attended the 56th Raising Day Parade of CISF at the Regional Training Center in Thakkolam, Tamil Nadu (TN), as the chief guest.

Karnataka CM Siddarmaiah Presented Rs 4.09 Lakh Crore Budget for FY26Karnataka allocates Rs 51,034 cr for guarantee schemes and Rs 51,339 cr for Agriculture sector in state budget 2025-26In March 2025, the Chief Minister (CM) of Karnataka Siddaramaiah presented his 16th budget worth Rs 4.09 lakh crore(Rs 4,09,549 crore) for Financial Year 2025-26(FY26) at the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The budget outlay for FY26 marked an increase of 12% i.e. Rs 3.65 lakh crore in Revised Estimates (RE) for FY25.

  • The budget for FY26 will focus on implementing programmes across 6 key developmental fields: welfare programmes budget, agriculture and rural development budget, development-oriented budget, prioritizing urban development, investment and job creation and governance reforms.
  • The budget has allocated Rs 51,034 crore for the state government’s 5 guarantee schemes, a decrease from Rs 56,000 crore allocated for the scheme in FY25.

i.Total total receipts are estimated at Rs 4,08,647 crore for FY26 (marking an increase of 13.9% compared to Revised Estimate (RE) for FY25), of which revenue receipts are estimated at Rs 2,92,477 crore, including state’s tax revenue (Rs 2,08,100 crore), non-tax revenue (Rs 16,500 crore) and central government funds (Rs 67,877 crore).
ii.Karnataka remains to be a major contributor to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) representing 8.4% of India’s GDP. The state’s GDP is projected to grow at 7.4% in FY25.
iii.The budget has allocated Rs 51,339 crore for the agriculture sector for FY26, compared to Rs 44,000 allocated in last fiscal year.

  • Rs 45,286 crore has been allocated for the education sector for FY26, which accounts 10% of the total budget outlay.

Punjab Govt Launches ‘Project Hifazat’ to Ensure Women, and Child Safety
In March 2025, the Government of Punjab launched Project Hifazat to protect women from violence on the eve of International Women’s Day – March 8. The Project was launched by Dr Baljit Kaur, Minister of Social Security, Women, and Child Development of Punjab in Chandigarh, Punjab.

  • The initiative aims to enhance the response system and establish a secure setting for reporting instances of domestic abuse and harassment, with the 181 helplines easily accessible.

i.This project seeks to eliminate the fear of women that prevents from reporting domestic violence, workplace harassment, or any other form of abuse
ii.The Women Helpline (181) and Child Helpline (1098) will operate 24/7 under “Mission Shakti” and “Mission Vatsalya,” guaranteeing access to both emergency and non-emergency services.

  • Emergency cases will be directly transferred to the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) for immediate action.

iii.This program encourages collaboration between the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab Police, Women and Child Development, and the Department of Social Security.

  • This partnership will guarantee quick rescue efforts, legal support, medical aid, and psychological and social care for the victims.
