On January 28, 2025 Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC), Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T) commemorated the 60th anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) of CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR-IITR), a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research(CSIR), celebrated at its headquarters in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (UP).
- During the event, he highlighted the institute’s significant milestones and its vital role in addressing public health challenges, advocating for a ‘toxin-free India’ by 2047., aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Key Points:
i.The Union MoS underscored the institute’s support for startups and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through initiatives like:
- Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) led Common Research and Technology Hub (CRTDH) Environmental Monitoring Hub;
- New Delhi (Delhi)-based Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) led Bioincubators Nurturing Entrepreneurship for Scaling Technologies (BioNEST).
ii.CSIR-IITR in collaboration with over 30 startups and 55 MSMEs, is fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in sectors like: environmental monitoring and pollution abatement.
Key Facilities and Products Launched:
i.During the event, Union MoS inaugurated various key facilities including,
- the Diamond Jubilee Arches,
- the new Diamond Jubilee Block,
- NaMo-ATAL facility, and VV Sansa, a state-of-the-art reference material hub, at CSIR-IITR.
ii.HeInaugurated the 3rd-floor Technology Development and Innovation Centre (TDIC), under BioNEST initiative.
iii.He also unveiled a commemorative stamp, highlighting the institute’s remarkable journey.
iv.He also launched various innovative products:
- Apatkaleen AHAAR: High-nutrition food for disaster relief
- NFit: Nutritious food tablets for endurance
- MIL-FiT: Millet-enriched all-in-one tablets
- SenzSCAn: Portable sensor for sickle cell anemia detection
Other Key Initiatives Launched:
i.Major technology transfers such as: VV Sansa’s TT, Onneer,E-PARAM initiative, aimed at promoting skill development and digital transformation.
ii.The CSIR-IITR Annual Report and Vish-Vigyan Sandesh Sankalan (Volume-I), which has documented the institute’s latest achievements and scientific contributions.
iii.Launched the WARMEST (Water, Air, Radiation Monitoring for Environment Safety Technologies). the third edition of the WARM series, and EARTH-25 (Environmental Awareness Research Towards Health) conferences were launched during the event.
