According to the Bloomberg’s Richest Family 2024 Index, the Walton family of Walmart (United States of America) have secured the top spot as the world’s wealthiest family with a net worth of USD 432.4 billion.
- The Al Nahayan Family (United Arab Emirates) secured the 2nd spot followed by the Al-Thani Family (Qatar) gained the 3rd spot on the list.
- Amongst the Indian families, the Ambani family (USD 99.6 billion) and Mistrys of Shapoorji Pallonji (USD 41.4 billion) family have secured spots in this global ranking at 8th and 23rd respectively.

The report showed that the world’s billionaires gained a collective USD 406.5 billion in wealth.

i.The net worth of the Walmart family has surpassed the individual net worth of Elon Musk and the combined wealth of royal families in the Middle East.
- This wealth is derived from their 46% stake in Walmart retail business.
- They saw 80% surge in Walmart shares in 2024, adding USD 172.7 billion to their fortune equivalent to USD 473.2 million per day.
ii.The UAE’s Al Nahyan family led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has a wealth of USD 323.9 billion spanning across three generations. Ruling family of the UAE Government and Source of wealth from Oil revenues
- Qatar’s Al Thani royal family spans across eight generations and has a total net worth of USD 172.9 billion. Revenues from Oil and offshore gas fields.
iii. The Hermes Family, the owners of the French luxury goods business with six generations and over 100 members, held the 4th spot with a net worth of USD 170.6 billion.
iv.The US based Koch family, with three generations involved in the oil industry ranked at the 5th spot with a net worth of USD 148.5 billion.
v.The Ambani family which has Revenues from Reliance Industries with three generations entered the top 10 in 2024 while the Mistry family, with five generations overseeing the Shapoorji Pallonji Group (construction, real estate and etc) secured 23rd spot on the list.

i.Overall, however, India’s richest saw their net worths increase as the top 20 have added USD 67.3 billion since January 2024 — with the biggest gainers being Shiv Nadar (USD 10.8 billion) and Savitri Jindal (USD 10.1 billion).
ii.Gautam Adani was omitted as first-generation wealth and single-heir fortunes were excluded from this ranking.
