PM Modi visit to Rajasthan and Haryana on 9th DecemberPrime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Rajasthan and Haryana on 9th December 2024.

  • During the visit, he inaugurated the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024 in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
  • He also launched Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC’s) Bima Sakhi Yojana and laid the foundation stone of the Main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University in Haryana.

About Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024 :

i.PM Modi inaugurated the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024 and the Rajasthan Global Business Expo at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC) in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

  • The Rajasthan Global Business Expo featured thematic pavilions such as the Rajasthan Pavilion, Country Pavilions, Startups Pavilion among others.

ii.The theme of the summit is ‘Replete, Responsible, Ready’ and was held from 9th to 11th December 2024.

iii.The main aim of the summit is to promote Rajasthan’s immense potential as an investment and business hub.

iv.Over 32 countries, including 16 partner countries and 20 international organizations participated in the Summit.

PM Modi launches LIC’s ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’:

i.PM Modi inaugurated the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’, an initiative of  LIC in Panipat, Haryana with an aim to empower women through financial literacy and insurance awareness.

  • LIC is expected to spend Rs 840 crore in the first year of Bima Sakhi Yojana.

ii.The scheme targets women of age 18 to 70 years who have passed class 10 and want to become volunteer insurance agents.

  • Participants will be given training and stipend for 3 years, to skill them in promoting financial literacy and creating awareness about insurance among underserved communities.

iii.Each woman volunteer will receive a stipend of Rs.7,000 per month in the first year, Rs.6,000 per month in the second year, and Rs.5,000 per month in the third year.

  • Each Bima Sakhi will have a target of insuring two individuals every month or 24 individuals in a year to earn the commission.
  • If they fail to meet this target, they will not receive a commission but will continue to receive their stipend.

iv.LIC aims to enroll 1,00,000 Bima Sakhi in the next 12 months and 2,00,000 over a period of 3 years as part of its women empowerment drive starting with 25,000 appointments this year.

  • Additionally, graduates of the Bima Sakhi programme may qualify for development officer roles within LIC, in order to advance their careers in the insurance sector.

PM lays the foundation stone of the main campus of MHU, Karnal:

i.PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University (MHU) in Uchani, Karnal, Haryana on 9th December 2024.

  • It is the 7th horticultural university in India.

ii.The estimated cost of the project is Rs 700 crores in which Rs 421 crores have been allocated specifically for the main campus construction.

iii.The campus covers an area of 65 acres and will consist of academic and administrative blocks, hostels, staff quarters, guest facilities, auditoriums, and recreational spaces.

iv.The university will offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs specializing in fruits, vegetables, floriculture, and landscape gardening.

  • It will also have six regional research stations across Haryana, addressing location-specific horticultural needs and driving crop diversification.

  • It aims to create and manage a cheetah corridor between the two states, guaranteeing the safe movement of cheetahs.
