India beat South Africa in final of T20I; Clinches four-match series 3-1
i.India defeated South Africa by a record 135 runs in the 4th and final T20 International at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
- With the win, India has secured the four-match series 3-1.
ii.India scored a total of 283 runs for 1 due to centuries scored by Tilak Varma (120 not out off 47 balls) and Sanju Samson (109 not out off 56 balls), and then stopped South Africa at 148 in 18.2 overs.
- Tristan Stubbs scored the highest for South Africa with 46 runs while David Miller contributed 36.
Sanju Samson becomes first cricketer to score three T20I centuries in a year
i.Sanju Samson made the 3rd  century of his career (109 not out off 56 balls) in the fourth T20I between India and South Africa.
- He now becomes the first wicketkeeper in history to make three centuries in T20Is.
- He had earlier scored 107 in the first T20I of the South Africa tour series and had made 111 against Bangladesh in October 2024.
ii.He has overtaken England’s Phil Salt, who has made 2 centuries in the shortest format of the game. In fact, Samson and Salt are the only two wicketkeepers in history to make more than one century in T20Is.
iii.Moreover, Sanju Samson also becomes the third Indian player after Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav to make three centuries for India in T20Is.
- He also becomes the first player in history to secure three centuries in T20Is in a calendar year, and also the first batter to slam multiple centuries in a T20I bilateral series.
Tilak Varma becomes 2nd Indian to hit hundreds in consecutive T20Is
i.Tilak Varma became only the 2nd Indian after Sanju Samson to score two consecutive T20I centuries during the fourth match against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
ii.Tilak secured a hundred in 41 balls, making his first T20I hundred in third match in Centurion becoming the youngest batter to hit a T20I century at the age of 22.
- It also made him the second–fastest centurion for India in T20Is.
- Rohit Sharma stands at the top of the list with a 35-ball hundred vs Sri Lanka in 2019.
- He scored 120 not out from 47 balls, hitting 10 sixes and nine fours in the finals.
iii. On the other hand, Tilak smashed centuries in the third and fourth matches of the South Africa T20I series where he won Player of the Match awards in both games.
iv.India’s Tilak became the fifth player to score back-to-back centuries in T20 international cricket. The other four are – Gustav Mckeon (France), Rilee Rossouw (South Africa), Phil Salt (England) and Sanju Samson (India).

India registers Most 200+ scores in T20s
Indian team made history after winning their match in Centurion as they secured their eighth 200-plus total in T20s in 2024, the most by a team in a single calendar year.
- Thus, they have surpassed the record seven wins each by Birmingham Bears in 2022 and Japan in 2024 and their own record in 2023.
India registers their second-highest T20I total
i.India Team recorded the second-highest T20I score ever in the history of cricket scored 297-6 in 20 overs against Bangladesh in the 3rd match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad in October 2024.
- India’s total is the second highest in the format after Nepal’s score of 314-3 against Mongolia at 2023 Asian Games in China.
- They have also secured the highest T20I score ever achieved by a Test-playing nation.
ii.Before this, the highest score was 278/3 made by Afghanistan in T20 cricket against Ireland, achieved in 2019 in Dehradun.
iii.India’s previous highest total was 260 for five against Sri Lanka in Indore in 2017.
Arshdeep Singh Becomes India’s 2nd-Highest T20I Wicket-Taker
i.Arshdeep Singh became India’s second-highest wicket-taker in men’s T20Is after India’s win against South Africa.
ii.In T20Is, Arshdeep had taken 92 wickets from 59 innings at an economy rate of 8.34 and an average of 18.47.
iii.He is now four wickets short of surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal and becoming India’s top wicketer in the shortest format.
iv.In the third T20I match of the series, Arshdeep Singh broke the record of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to achieve the milestone.
- Bumrah has 89 wickets in T20Is from 69 innings at an economy rate of 6.27. While Bhuvneshwar has 90 wickets from 86 innings at an economy rate of 6.96.
