Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister(CM) of Gujarat inaugurated the 17th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition(2024) at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The theme of the 2024 conference is ‘Standardization and Optimization of Urban Transport Solutions’.
- The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs(MoHUA)Â organized the UMI 2024 in collaboration with the Institute of Urban Transport (India)Â and with the support of Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation(GMRC) Limited. The event was held from 25th October to 27th October 2024.
- The exhibition showcased the best practices in urban transport in India and aboard, latest urban transport technologies and got the participation more than 2200 delegates including more than 50 participants from abroad.
Note:Â The 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition(2025) will be held in Gurugram, Haryana.
About UMI 2024:Â
i.The UMI 2024 saw the participation of around 76 exhibitors from Metro Rail Companies and public and private sectors.
- Around 67 Indian exhibitors and 17 foreign exhibitors have participated in the event.
- Moreover, the companies based in Germany, France, Spain, etc. have also participated in this exhibition.
iv.The conference discussed upon integrating various modes in urban mobility, multilateral and bilateral funding, importance of big data for transport planning, E-Bus Eco-system in India, benchmarking of cost in Metro system, digital public infrastructure principles in relation to E-Bus transition, innovative financing and other issues and challenges in Urban transport.
v.The conference has also focused upon aim for clean air cities, urban freight, urban transport solutions for small and middle towns in India.
vi.The closing cermony of the 17th UMI & Exhibition was addressed by the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar.
During the closing ceremony, the winners of ‘Best Practices Project in Urban Transport’ was awarded to state and city authorities in a total of 9 categories.

Key Points:
i.Bhubaneswar(Odisha) was awarded with the title of the ‘City with the Best Public Transport System’ at the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2024.
ii.This marks the sixth time (2019, 2020, 2021,2022 & 2023) an Odisha government initiative, led by Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), has earned national recognition as one of the top urban mobility programs.
About UMI Conference :
i.The Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Exhibition is a flagship annual event in India that is organized by the MoHUA.
ii.UMI originates from the 2006 National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP), which focuses upon developing State and city-level capacities to overcome urban transport challenges and develop sustainable solutions.
iii.The first conference was held in 2008 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi(Delhi)
iv.The event includes four main components are Conference, Exhibition, Research Symposium, and Awards for Excellence in Urban Transport.
