On 22nd October 2024, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, Ministry of Communications (MoC) and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) unveiled the new logo of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and launched its 7 customer centric services at Bharat Sanchar Bhavan in New Delhi, Delhi.
- These newly launched services focus on delivering secure, affordable, and reliable connectivity across India.
Key People: Union Minister of State (MoS) Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, MoC; Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under MoC, A Robert Jerad Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of BSNL; and other senior officers from DoT, BSNL, Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL), among others were present at the event.
About BSNL New Logo:
i.The new logo of BSNL signifies strength, trust, and accessibility. It includes green and white arrows surrounding India which emphasize the company’s expansive nationwide coverage, while the orange backdrop symbolizes warmth and inclusivity.
ii.The bold tagline of BSNL, “Connecting Bharat” reflects its unwavering mission to bridge the digital divide by offering a modern, reliable telecom network that connects both urban and rural India.
7 new initiatives:
BSNL has launched 7 new initiatives built on 3 key pillars : security, affordability, and reliability:
i.Spam! Free Network: BSNL introduces the spam-blocking solution that automatically filters out phishing attempts and blocks malicious Short Message Services (SMSes), ensuring seamless and secure communication for all users.
ii.BSNL National Wi-Fi Roaming: BSNL has launched a first-of-its-kind national Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) roaming service for its Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) customers enabling high speed internet access at BSNL hotspots across the country at no additional charges, thus minimizing data costs for users.
iii.BSNL Intranet Fiber Television(IFTV): It is a first-of-its kind fibre-based intranet Television (TV) service with more than 500 live channels and Pay TV through its FTTH network. All subscribers of BSNL FTTH will be able to access this new service without any extra charges. The data used for the TV viewing will not be consuming the data pack of FTTH.
iv.Any Time SIM (ATS) Kiosks: It is a first-of-its kind automated Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) kiosks which enable users to purchase, upgrade, port or replace SIMs on 24×7 basis, leveraging Unified Payments Interface (UPI) or Quick-Response(QR) enabled payments with seamless Know Your Customer (KYC) integration and multi-lingual access.
v.Direct-to-Device Service: BSNL has launched a Direct-to-Device (D2D) connectivity solution covering satellite and terrestrial mobile networks to deliver smooth, reliable connectivity. This service will enable sending text messages and making UPI payments in areas where no terrestrial network is present.
vi.‘Public Protection & Disaster Relief’ – as a solution: BSNL has launched Public Protection & Disaster Relief; India’s 1st guaranteed encrypted communication for government and relief agencies during disaster and crises. This service will help in improving national disaster management capabilities. It uses innovative drone-based and balloon-based systems to extend coverage during disasters.
vii.First Private 5G in Mines: BSNL has also introduced the 1st captive 5G network for coal mines in India, in partnership with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC). This service is developed using indigenously made 5G equipment and technological expertise of BSNL.
- This service allows advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, in underground mines and large opencast mine which require high speed low latency connectivity, such as: safety analytics, real-time remote control of Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV), Augmented Reality (AR) enabled remote maintenance, fleet tracking and optimizations, among others.
Some Key Announcements:
i.While addressing the event, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that BSNL will soon deploy 5G services across the country and it has already conducted successful trials of 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) and core in both the 3.6 Giga Hertz (GHz) and 700 Mega Hertz (MHz) bands.
ii.He further informed that out of 1 lakh BSNL 4G sites, which are planned to be established by mid-2025, many will be upgraded to 5G connectivity.
