The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointments of the Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers Alok Ranjan as Director of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) and Amit Garg as Director of Hyderabad (Telangana)-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) with immediate effect.
- Alok Ranjan has been appointed for a tenure up to his superannuation on 30 June 2026. He replaces Vivek Gogia, who has been repatriated to Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.
- Amit Garg has been appointed for a term up to his retirement on 31 October 2027. He has been serving as the Director(Additional Charge) of SVPNPA since 2023.
Key Points:
i.Alok Ranjan is a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Madhya Pradesh (MP) cadre.
ii.Amit Garg is a 1993 batch IPS officer of the Andhra Pradesh (AP) cadre. He joined the SVPNPA, Hyderabad as Joint Director in 2020.
- Before joining SVPNPA, he was Chairman of the State-Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB) in AP.
Additional Appointments:
The ACC also approved the appointments of the following IPS officers.
i.Praveen Ranjan has been appointed as the Special Director General (SDG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
- To formalise the promotion, the ADG post held by Praveen Ranjan was temporarily upgraded to the SDG rank for two years.
- He is a 1993-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre and is currently serving as the Additional Director General (ADG) of CISF.
ii.Vitul Kumar has been appointed as SDG of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and he will hold the post till the date of his superannuation on 31 August 2028.
- He is a 1993 batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre and is currently serving as the ADG of the CRPF.
iii.R Prasad Meena has been appointed as SDG of the Border Security Force (BSF) and he will hold the post till the date of his superannuation on 31 July 2025.
- He is a 1993-batch IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya (AM) cadre and is currently serving as the ADG of the BSF.
Other Appointments:
i.The ACC also approved the appointments of 4 senior IPS officers, all from the 1993 batch. They were promoted to the post of Special Director(SD) in the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
- All these officers were working as the AD in the IB.
ii.The 4 new appointees are namely, Rithwik Rudra of the Himachal Pradesh (HP) cadre; Mahesh Dixit of the Andhra Pradesh (AP) cadre; Praveen Kumar of the West Bengal (WB) cadre; and Arvind Kumar of the Bihar cadre.
About Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA):
It was established as Central Police Training College in Mount Abu (Rajasthan) in 1948. This institution was renamed as National Police Academy (NPA) in 1967 and was named Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in 1974.
