Government Launched Vaccination Portal ‘U-WIN’ For Pregnant Women & ChildrenGovernment Roll Out Vaccination Portal ‘U-WIN’ For Pregnant Women and ChildrenThe Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW) launched the ‘U-WIN’, an online vaccine management portal to captures every vaccination record of all pregnant women and children up to 6 years under the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP).

  • Aim: To maintain an electronic registry of routine immunisations.

i.This portal designed to digitises the UIP which is a part of the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Program under the National Health Mission (NHM), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW).
ii.The U-WIN portal is a replication of the COVID-19 vaccine management system Co-WIN and an important outcome of the government’s 100-day health agenda

IN-SPACe Granted Authorisation to Azista BST to Set Up Satellite Tracking Facility in Hyderabad
On 26th July 2024, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-Space), under the Department of Space (DoS), has granted authorisation to Azista BST Aerospace Private Limited, to establish a ground station in the Ultra High-Frequency (UHF) frequency bands in Hyderabad, Telangana.

  • Now, Azista BST will support its own satellites and provide Ground Station as a Service (GSaaS) for Telemetry, Tracking, and Command (TT&C) operations and data reception from remote sensing satellites to both Indian and international customers.
  • This includes monitoring satellites, monitoring their health and downloading from satellites.

i.The proposed ground station will operate in the UHF band of 300 MegaHertz (MHz) to 3 GigaHertz (GHz). This band is mainly used for satellite communications such as: data relay for remote sensing telemetry, and control of satellites.
ii.They support applications like weather forecasting, environmental monitoring, and communications for scientific research and military operations.
Note: Hyderabad (Telangana)-based Azista BST Aerospace is joint venture(JV) between Azista Industries and Berlin Space Technologies.

Overview of EAM Jaishankar’s Visit to Vietiane, Laos from 25-27 July 2024Visit to Vientiane, Lao PDRUnion Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India (GoI) was on a 3-day official visit to Vietiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) from 25th to 27th July 2024.
i.Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister (EAM) attended the 57th ASEAN-Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM) chaired by Lao PDR under theme ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
ii.On 26th July 2024, EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar and Dato Haji, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei jointly launched a logo celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relation between India and Brunei.
iii.On 27th July 2024, EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with Saleumxay Kommasith , foreign minister of Lao PDR and jointly released a special commemorative postage stamp set featuring Lord Ram Lalla of Ayodhya(Uttar Pradesh).

India is 2nd Largest User of Non-Tariff Measures in 2023: WTO-UNCTAD WTP 2024India 2nd largest user of non-tariff measures in 2023 WTO Reporti.On July 27, 2024, the World Trade Organization (WTO), in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), released a report ‘World Tariff Profiles (WTP) 2024’ in Geneva, Switzerland.
ii.As per it, India ranked as the second-largest user of Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs) among WTO members in 2023, primarily through the initiation and imposition of anti-dumping duties.
iii.The United States of America (USA) took the 1st position.
iv.NTMs are policies, other than regular customs tariffs, that affect international trade in goods by altering traded quantities, prices, or both.
v.India’s average tariffs decreased to 17% in 2023 from 18.1% in 2022.

Exercise Khaan Quest 2024 initiated in UlaanbaatarIA Participates with Madras Regiment BattalionExercise KHAAN QUEST 2024On July 27, 2024, the 21st edition of Exercise ‘Khaan Quest(KQ24)’, a multinational peacekeeping exercise, began at the Five Hills Training Area in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  The exercise KQ24 will conclude on August 9, 2024.

  • Aim : To enhance global peacekeeping capabilities and foster international military collaboration.
  • The exercise KQ24 features approximately 430 participants from 23 countries, including India, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Türkiye, the United States of America (USA), and the United Kingdom(UK).
  • India’s Ambassador to Mongolia Atul Malhari Gotsurve attended the inaugural ceremony along with Minister of Defense of Mongolia Byambatsogt Sandag, Chief of the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces Major General Ganbyamba Sunrev, among others.

Background:
The Exercise Khaan Quest(KQ) started as a bilateral event between the United States of America (USA and Mongolian armed forces in 2003, Khaan Quest evolved into a multinational peacekeeping exercise in 2006.

  • The exercise is co-sponsored by Mongolian Armed Forces (MAF) and United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC).
  • The previous edition of Khaan Quest held in Mongolia from June 19 to July 2, 2023.

Participation:
i.A military training group with trainers from 7 countries: the USA, Australia, Canada, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
ii.For platoon field training, 11 platoons participated from 10 countries, including the USA, China, South Korea, Türkiye, India, Japan (two platoons), Qatar, and Mongolia.
iii.It also saw the participation of Observer Nations such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Egypt, and Pakistan.
Indian Army (IA) Participation:
i.The Indian Army(IA) contingent comprises 40 personnel from the Madras Regiment Battalion, including one woman officer and two women soldiers.
ii.India’s involvement focuses on preparing its armed forces for peacekeeping missions, enhancing interoperability, and increasing military readiness for peace support operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
Goals of Exercise:
i.To enhance defense cooperation between the Mongolian Armed Forces, the USA Army Pacific Command, and other participating armies.
ii.To boost the MFA’s capabilities in peacekeeping operations.
iii.To support capacity-building for militaries to meet United Nations peacekeeping requirements.
Key Points
i.The exercise emphasizes physical fitness, joint planning, and tactical drills, including establishing check points, cordon and search operations, patrolling, civilian evacuation, counter-IED (Improvised Explosive Device) drills, combat first aid, and casualty evacuation.
ii.It aims to develop interoperability, camaraderie, and the sharing of best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures among participating nations.
Note :  The 16th edition of India-Mongolia joint military exercise ‘Nomadic Elephant’ held from July 3rd to July 16th, 2024 in Meghalaya.

RBI selected 5 firms under 5th cohort of RS on the Theme ‘Neutral’RBI selects 5 entities under its regulatory sandbox schemeOn July 26, 2024, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has selected 5 entities out of 22 applications for the Test Phase under the 5th cohort of Regulatory Sandbox (RS) on the theme ‘ Neutral’.

  • The selected entities will commence testing of their products on solutions from August 2024. The 5th cohort under RS was announced in September 2022.

The Selected Sandbox entites are,

RBI Imposes Monetary Penalties On 3 Payment System Operators RBI imposes penalties on Visa Worldwide, Ola Financial Services,The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty on three Payment System Operators (PSOs) namely Manappuram Finance Limited (MAFIL), Ola Financial Services Private Limited (OFS) and Visa Worldwide Private Limited (VWPL) for non-compliance with the regulatory norms.

  • This actions have been taken in exercise of powers vested in RBI under the provisions of Section 30 and Section 31 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

Key Points:
i.MAFIL: The RBI has fined Rs 41.5 lakh on MAFIL(formerly known as Manappuram General Finance and Leasing Limited) for non-compliance with certain provisions of Know Your Customer (KYC) directions.
ii.OFS: The RBI has fined Rs 87.55 lakh on OFS ( formerly known as Zipcash Card Services Private Limited) for two separate violations.

  • The fine of Rs 33.40 lakh is for not adhering to KYC directions.
  • The second fine of Rs 54.15 lakh is for regulatory compliance deficiencies specified under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

iii.VWPL: Visa Worldwide Private Limited(VWPL) has been fined Rs 2.4 crore for non-compliance as it had implemented a payment authentication solution without regulatory clearance from the RBI.

HSBC Mutual Fund has introduced the “Apne #SIPKoDoPromotion” ,a unique digital campaign to raise awareness and educate investors about the Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) Top-Up feature and its benefits for long-term wealth building.
i.The campaign features three 30-second digital films designed to promote the concept of increasing SIP contributions through the Top-Up facility.

Rigoberta Menchú Tum & Victor Gonzalez Torres Receives Gandhi Mandela Award 2020Nobel Prize winner Rigoberta Menchú Tum conferred with Gandhi Mandela Award 2020Rigoberta Menchú Tum, the renowned Nobel Prize winner and Guatemalan human rights activist and Victor Gonzalez Torres, a Mexican politician and businessman have received the prestigious Gandhi Mandela Award 2020 which was presented on Nelson Mandela’s 106th birth anniversary (July 18 2024).

  • Menchú received the award in recognition of her lifelong commitment to advocating indigenous rights and promoting peace and social justice.
  • Torre received the Award for his exceptional contributions to healthcare. The award was given at a function in Mexico.

i.According to the Gandhi Mandela Foundation, Gandhi Mandela Award is awarded to the individual who promotes the values ​​of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela which includes community service, social development and promotion of peace and harmony.

  • The award is instituted on the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, MK Gandhi in 2019.

iii.Her involvement resulted in her exile in Mexico in 1981, where she continued her work by co-founding the United Representation of the Guatemalan Opposition (RUOG) in 1982.
iv.Her autobiography, ‘I, Rigoberta Mench, published in 1983, received international attention which detailed her life and struggles.
v.Rigoberta Menchú Tum was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992 for her continuing efforts to achieve social justice and mutual reconciliation in Guatemala. She also received the Princess of Asturias Award in 1998.

  • He won the presidential election by securing 51% of the vote with 80% of the ballot votes counted while the Opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia finished 2nd with 44% of the vote.
  • He has been a member of United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) since 2007.

i. Nicolás Maduro Moros was elected to the Venezuelan Chamber of Deputies in 1998 and was later elected to the National Constituent Assembly in 1999.
ii.In 2000, He was elected to the National Assembly, the legislature for Venezuela.

Formula 1: Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton won the Belgian Grand Prix 2024Lewis Hamilton emerged as the winner of Belgian Grand PrixOn 28th July 2024, Mercedes‘ Lewis Hamilton, a British racing driver, won the Formula 1 (F1) Belgian Grand Prix (GP) 2024 (officially known as the F1 Rolex Belgian Grand Prix 2024) held at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Stavelot, Belgium.

  • This marks Hamilton’s 2nd GP title of 2024 after the Great Britain GP held in July 2024.
  • McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, (Australia) secured the 2nd place on the podium and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (Monaco)  moved up to the 3rd position.

Mercedes’ George Russel Disqualified:
i.Mercedes’ George Russell, a British racing driver, who originally finished 1st was disqualified following the race for an underweight car.
ii.Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) stated that 2.8 liters of fuel had been improperly drained from Russell’s car after he had originally hit the minimum weight limit.
iii.The Fact Weight of Car (796.5 kg) was below the minimum weight required (798.0 kg).

i.Lewis Hamilton is the 1st driver other than Red Bull’s Max Verstappen (Dutch-Belgium) to win multiple GPs in the 2024 season.
ii.For Hamilton, the 7-time world champion, this win marks the 105th GP victory of his career.
iii.This win for Hamilton was his 11th podium finish at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and his 4th podium finish in the last 5 GPs.
About the Belgian GP:
i.The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is the longest track on the F1 calendar at 7.004 kilometers (km).
ii.The 19-turn Belgian circuit is so large that drivers may experience both rain and sun in a single lap.
iii.The maiden F1 championship held in this circuit was in 1950.
iv.The Number of Laps is 44 and the race distance is 308.052 km.
v.The Belgian GP 2024 was the Round 14 of the F1 World Championship 2024.

  • Round 15 will be the FI Heineken Dutch GP 2024, scheduled to be held at the Circuit Zandvoort, the Netherlands from 23-25 August 2024.

  • The annual observance is led by the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • The 2024 theme for World Hepatitis Day is, ‘It’s time for action.’
  • The sub-theme of WHD 2024 is, “Global hepatitis response: Closing the gap toward the 2030 elimination goals“.

History of WHD:
i.In 2008, the World Hepatitis Alliance coordinated with different patient groups and declared May 19 the first global World Hepatitis Day.
ii.The 63rd World Health Assembly (WHA) held in May 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland adopted various resolutions including WHA63.18 on viral hepatitis, designating 28 July of every year as WHD.
iii.The 1st WHO recognised World Hepatitis Day was observed on 28th July 2011.
