On 18 July 2024, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) organised “Utkrishtata ki Ore Badhte Kadam: Celebrating Achievements, Inspiring Excellence” event to honour best performers under the Prime Minister (PM) Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Yojana, and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).
- The event was organised to commemorate the outstanding accomplishments of the year 2023-24 and recognise the contributions of key stakeholders, including central ministries, state governments, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), and lending institutions.
Key Attendees: The event was attended by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, MoHUA, as Chief Guest; Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State (MoS), MoHUA; Anurag Jain, Secretary, MoHUA; the beneficiaries of DAY-NULM and PM SVANidhi, among others
Event Highlights:
i.During the event, the Annual Report of PM SVANidhi and a compendium of DAY-NULM success stories were released.
- The report provides insights into the various initiatives and reforms undertaken by the scheme in 2023.
ii.The Union Minister felicitated PRAISE and SPARK Award winners under the PM SVANidhi and DAY-NULM schemes.
- Performance Recognition for Access to Financial Inclusion and Street Vendors Empowerment (PRAISE) awards for their exceptional performance in implementing the PM SVANidhi scheme; and
- Systematic Progressive Analytical Real Time Ranking (SPARK) awards for their exceptional performance in implementing the DAY-NULM scheme.
iii.He also launched new features of the PM SVANidhi mobile application (app), including voice-based grievance tools, chatbots, and e-Parichay cards.
- The mobile app enhances user experience with a voice-based complaint submission, improved query resolution process, and a system that includes easy access to the Parichay Board, empowering the PM SVANidhi beneficiaries.
iv.The 2 expert panel discussions were convened to shape the future direction of PM SVANidhi and DAY-NULM programs namely:
- “The Role of Partnerships for Sustainable Urban Poverty Alleviation” for DAY-NULM; and
- “Creating Inclusive Spaces for Street Vendors in City Planning and Exploring Financial Partnerships” for PM SVANidhi.

PM SVANidhi Scheme:
i.It was launched on 1 June 2020 to provide collateral-free working capital loans of up to Rs 80,000 to Urban Street Vendors (USV).
ii.It incentivises regular repayment with a 7% interest subsidy and cashback for digital transactions of up to Rs 1,200 per year.
DAY-NULM:
i.It was launched by the MoHUA on 24 September 2013 to reduce urban poverty through self-employment and skilled-wage employment
ii.It aims to provide shelters for the urban homeless, access to credit, and social security for street vendors.

The MoHUA announced that it has extended the deadline for the Smart Cities Mission (SCM) till 31 March 2025, allowing cities to complete ongoing projects, which account for around 10% of the total projects.
