On July 3 2024, The Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)Ā GovernmentĀ reconstituted 8 Cabinet Committees of the Union Cabinet after being sworn in for the record third consecutive time.
Key Points:
i.There are a total 72 members of the Union Council Minister, including the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi. Of which 31 are of Cabinet rank and they are part of the newly reconstituted Cabinet committees.
ii.Of the total eight committees, six of them were headed by the PM and the remaining one will be headed by the Home Minister and other by the Defence Minister.
iii.The Prime Minister is not a member of two committees: The Cabinet Committee on Accommodation and the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
Eight Cabinet Committees:
The eight Cabinet Committees are: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), Cabinet Committee on Accommodation (CCA), Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth (CCIG), and Cabinet Committee on Skill, Employment and Livelihood.
1.Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC):
Members: The ACC, the most powerful committee which is responsible for appointment of bureaucrats comprises PM Narendra Modi (Head) and Amit Shah (Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation), which remains unchanged.
Function:Ā Responsible for making appointments to key positions in the central government.
2.Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS):
Headed by: Narendra Modi
Members: It consists of 4 members which includes Rajnath Singh(Defence Minister), Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance Minister) and S Jaishankar(External Affairs Minister)
Function: The committee dealing with the issues concerning law and order and national security
3.Cabinet Committee on Accommodation (CCA):
Headed by: Amit Shah
Members: It consists of 4 members which includes Nitin Gadkari (Minister of Road Transport and Highways); Nirmala Sitharaman(Minister of Finance; and Minister of Corporate Affairs); Manohar Lal Khattar (Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Minister of Power) and PiyushĀ Goyal (Minister of Commerce and Industry).
Special invitee: Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge-IC of the Ministry of Science and Technology; MoS (IC of the Ministry of Earth Sciences-MoES); MoS in the PMās Office; MoS in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions-(MoPPG&P); MoS in the Department of Atomic Energy-DAE; and MoS in the Department of Space-DoS.
Function: This committee deals with housing and accommodation issues for government officials.
4.Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA):
Headed by: Narendra Modi
Members: It consists of 10 members which includes Rajnath Singh; Amit Shah; Nitin Gadkari; Nirmala Sitharaman and SubrahmanyamĀ Jaishankar; Dharmendra Pradhan (Minister of Education); PiyushĀ Goyal (Minister of Commerce and Industry); Shivraj Singh Chouhan(Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare; and Minister of Rural Development); H. D. Kumaraswamy(Minister of Heavy lndustries; and Minister of Steel); and Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh(Minister of Panchayati Raj; and Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying).
Special invitee: HD Kumaraswamy (Minister of Heavy Industries and Minister of Steel); Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Minister of Rural Development); Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh (Minister of Panchayati Raj; and Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying) were added as members in the first reconstitution of key panel after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Note: Harsimrat Kaur Badal, an Akali Dal leader, was the last Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally to serve on this committee in August 2020.
Function:Ā This committee that takes decisions on allocations and disbursements.
5.Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs:
Headed by:Ā Rajnath Singh
Members: Ā It consists of 9 members which includes Amit Shah; Jagat Prakash Nadda (Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers); Nirmala Sitharaman; Rajiv Ranjan Singh; Virendra Kumar (Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment); KinjarapuĀ Rammohan Naidu (Minister of Civil Aviation); JualĀ Oram (Minister of Tribal Affairs); KirenĀ Rijiju (Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of Minority Affairs) and CR Patil, (Minister of Jal Shakti).
Special invitees: Arjun Ram MeghwalĀ Ā (MoS (lC) of the Ministry of Law and Justice-MoL&J; and MoS in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs-MPA); L Murugan (MoS in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting-MIB; and MoS in the MPA).
Function:Ā This Committee draws the schedule for Parliament sessions and monitors the progress of government business in Parliament.
6.The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA):

Members: It consists of 13 members which includesĀ Rajnath Singh; Amit Shah; KirenĀ Rijiju ; Jagat Prakash Nadda, Nirmala Sitharaman, PiyushĀ Goyal; Nitin JairamĀ Gadkari (Minister of Road Transport and Highways); SarbanandaĀ Sonowal (Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways); Bhupender Yadav (Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change); Annpurna Devi (Minister of Women and Child Development); Jitan Ram Manjhi(Minister of Micro, Smalland Medium Enterprises); Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu(Minister of Civil Aviation);Ā and G Kishan Reddy (Minister of Coal; and Minister of Mines).

Members: It consists of 11 members which includes Rajnath Singh; Amit Shah; Nitin JairamĀ Gadkari; Nirmala Sitharaman; Piyush Goyal; DharmendraĀ Pradha; AshwiniĀ Vaishnaw; Bhupender Yadav; Gajendra Singh Shekhawat (Minister of Culture; and Minister of Tourism); Hardeep Singh Puri and Mansukh Mandaviya (Minister of Labour and Employment; and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport).
Special Invite: Jayant Chaudhary, MoS (lC) of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and MoS in the Ministry of Education (MoE).
Function: This committee handles issues related to skill, employment and livelihood.
