According to Kroll’s Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2023: Brands, Business, Bollywood, Former Indian Cricketer team Captain Virat Kohli has reclaimed the top spot as India’s most valued celebrity with a brand value of USD 227.9 million, USD 51 million(mn) higher than 2022.
- Bollywood Actor Ranveer Singh, who topped the 2022 list, dropped to the 2nd position with a brand value of USD 203.1 million.
- Shah Rukh Khan(3rd), Akshay Kumar(4th) and Alia Bhatt (5th) are among the top 5.
Note: Brand value of Virat Kohli and Ranveer Singh have surpassed the USD 200 million mark for the 1st time.
About Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2023:
i.This is the 9th edition of Kroll’s celebrity brand valuation report. The study ranked India’s most powerful celebrity brands based on brand values derived from their brand endorsement portfolios and their relative social media presence.
ii.The report recognised the expansion of celebrity-owned startups in different industries as well as the significant rise of Indian celebrities as global ambassadors of reputed international brands.
iii.The cumulative brand value of the top 25 Indian celebrities in 2023 increased by 15.5% compared to previous year, to an estimated value of USD 1.9 billion (bn).
iv.The report observed that the combined contribution of female celebrities to the total brand value has increased to 24% which is somewhat same to the previous years , which was around 20% to 22% (in 2022).

Key Points:
i.Famous Bollywood Actor, Shah Rukh Khan ranked at 3rd position with total brand value of USD 120.7 million. He has made into the top 5 for the first time since 2020.
ii.Akshay Kumar dropped from 3rd position in 2022 to 4th position in 2023 with brand value of USD 111.7 million,
iii.Alia Bhatt has sercured the 5th position with brand value of USD 101.1 million. She is the only female featured on the top 5 of the 2023 list.
- In 2023, Gucci, the luxury fashion brand from Italy, has appointed Alia Bhatt as its first global ambassador from India.
iv.The report observed that over the last couple of years many Indian celebrities venturing into entrepreneurship and global ambassadorship.
- Celebrities like: Akshay Kumar (Force IX), Deepika Padukone (82°E), and Nayanthara (9SKIN) have successfully introduced their own brands in areas such as: skin care products, clothing, among others.
v.The report saw an exponential increase in brand value of Indian Actress, Kiara Advani by about 60% to 70%. Thus, her rank jumped from 16th (in 2022) to 12th (in 2023).
vi.While, Indian Actress, Katrina Kaif made a comeback in the list of India’s most valued celebrity brands after 5 years and has been ranked at 25th position with brand value of USD 27.1 million.
vii.Rashmika Mandanna has moved up from 25th position to 20th position in the list with total brand value of USD 38.3 million, which is about 50% increase in brand value.
Points to note:
i.The report highlighted that in the advertising industry, the television segment is estimated to reach a market size of USD 9.5 billion in 2025, with growth at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 3.9% from 2022 to 2025.
- While, Digital media segment is projected to reach USD 10.3 billion in 2025 from USD 6.8 billion in 2022, with growth at a CAGR of 14.7% from 2022-2025
ii.The Top segments using celebrity endorsers are: Personal Care & Toiletries, Food and Beverages, Real Estate and Construction, among others.
iii.The combined number of product brand endorsement by the top 20 celebrities increased by 14.2%, from 424 product brands (2022) to 484 (2023).
