Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy laid the foundation stone for India’s first Global Artist Village at Kakkananpara in Kannur district of Kerala. The village has been named as “Kalagramam” and this project is planned by the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi.
The government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 75 lakh and an additional amount of Rs 3 crore will be included in the next budget. The proposed Art Village would provide canvass to granite, wood, metals and clay to artists, including those from abroad, for their work. The Academy proposed to construct four living rooms, mess house, conference hall and related amenities in the first phase of the work.
