Droupadi Murmu, President of India, presented the Best Electoral Practices Awards 2023 during the event organised by Election Commission of India(ECI) as a part of the 14th National Voters Day (NVD 2023) on 25th January 2024 in New Delhi, Delhi.
- The award was presented to the State and District level officers for their outstanding performance in the conduct of elections during 2023.

Key Points:
i.A total 16 awards were presented during the event.. These include 13 individuals for ECI’s Best Electoral Practices Awards; and 3 Organization for ECI Media Awards.
ii.During the event, ECI also launches the logo and tagline “Chunav ka Parv, Desh ka Garv” (Festival of Elections, Pride of the Nation) of the multi-media campaign for Voter Education and Awareness for the forthcoming Parliamentary(lok sabha) election 2024.Best Electoral Practices Awards 2023

General Award:
i.Election Management: Vinit Nandanwar, Collector and District Election Officer (DEO), Dantewada (Chhattisgarh) for Election Management.
ii.Electoral Roll Management: Divya Prabhu GR, DEO, Chitradugra (Karnataka)
iii.Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation: Dr Vipin ltankar, DEO, Nagpur (Maharashtra).
iv.IT Initiatives: Ansh Deep, District Collector & DEO, Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan) for his ‘Election Buddy’ app
v.Accessible Elections: Saju Vaheed A, DEO, South Tripura (Tripura) for Accessible Elections.
vi.Security Management: Dr Ramesh Chand Yadav, Superintendent of Police, Dhalai (Tripura) and Vineet Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Champhai (Mizoram).
Special Award:
i.Election Management & Innovative Measures: Vikas Kumar, Nodal officer (Election Expenditure), Rajasthan.
ii.Election Management: Sarfaraz Ahmad, Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana.
iii.Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation: Rohan Saxena, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Zila Panchayat, Niwari, Madhya Pradesh.
iv.IT Initiatives: Syed Nasir Jamil, System Analyst, Chief Electoral Office, Jharkhand
Others:
i.Award for government Department/Agency/Public Sector Undertaking(PSU) for Election Management (Expenditure): Shikha C, Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Karnataka.
ii.Best Performing State Award for Election Management: Reena Babasaheb Kangale, Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh.

Key Points:
i.Till now, 17 general elections and more than 400 assembly elections have been conducted by the Election Commission.
ii.In 2024, General Election will be conducted across India, and during this mega-polling exercise, 12 lakh polling booths will be set up in the country.
iii.The ECI appointed Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Actor Rajkumar Rao as the ‘National Icon’ for voter awareness and education.
iv.In September 2023, ECI launched a comic book titled “Chacha Chaudhary aur Chunavi Dangal” is a joint initiative of ECI & Pran Comics to inspire the youth to enroll and participate in voting.
- The iconic cartoon characters Chacha Chaudhary, Sabu, Billoo brought to life by the renowned Cartoonist late Pran Kumar Sharma.
About NVD:
Since 2011, National Voters’ Day has been celebrated on January 25 every year, across India to mark the foundation day of ECI, i.e. 25th January 1950. The main purpose of the NVD celebration is to create electoral awareness amongst citizens and encourage them to participate in the electoral process.

i.On September 29, 2023, as per the notification issued by the Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, President Droupadi Murmu has granted assent to the Women’s Reservation Bill 2023, which mandates a 33% reservation (one-third of total seats) for women in the Lok Sabha, State Legislative assemblies, and National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. This historic decision was officially approved by the President on September 28, 2023.
ii.President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania visited India at invitation of President Droupadi Murmu from October 8-10, 2023. The events took place at Kaushal Bhawan,New Moti Bagh in New Delhi,Delhi. She was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Hon. January Makamba (MP).
