On 27th June 2023, on the occasion of United Nations (UN)’s Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day, the Ministry of MSME (MoMSME) celebrated ‘Udyami Bharat-MSME Day’ at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Delhi to launch various initiatives including Champions 2.0 Portal and Mobile App for geo-tagging of cluster projects and technology centres for the growth and development of the MSME sector.
- 6 MoUs between different organisations were also signed during the event.
Key People:
Narayan Rane, Union Minister of MSME was the chief guest of the programme and Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, Union Minister of State (MoS) for MSME was the guest of honour.
Champions 2.0 Portal:
i. It is a platform for resolution, redressal and remedies launched in June 2020 as a single-window grievance redressal, an information and communications technology, or technologies (ICT)- based portal for MSMEs.
ii. It uses chatterbot(chatbot) technology for automated grievance redressal in order to reduce the turnaround time using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
iii. It will be available in 11 languages (Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu) from earlier 7 languages to improve user-friendliness and outreach.
iv.The portal resolved 16,221 grievances out of 16,262 grievances received in the Financial Year (FY)23. In the current FY so far, 5,365 grievances were received, of which 5,206 were resolved.
Note: Previously MSME complaints were resolved through the internet grievance monitoring system (IGMS) up to May 31, 2020.
Geo-tagging App:
i. The ministry of MSME is working on a geo-tagging app for the MSME units and the data collected from this app will be shared with the PM-Gati Shakti portal.
ii. The first phase of the app will include the latitude and longitude of the physical location of cluster projects under the MSE- Cluster Development Programme (CDP) and MSME offices development and facilitation offices (DFOs), testing centres and technology centres.
iii. The MSE-CDP implemented since 2003, aims to strengthen capacity building for MSEs through Common Facility Centre (CFC) projects and Infrastructure Development (IDs) projects.
Six MoUs:
i. MoMSMEand Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), signed a MoU to create a portal for ‘PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman’ (PMVIKAS) by SIDBI.
ii. MoMSME and Government e-Marketplace (GeM) signed a MoU with the objective of sharing Udyam Registration data with GeM for last mile registration of MSMEs in the Public Procurement eco-system.
iii. MoMSME and the Industry Department, Government of Tripura signed a MoU for sharing of Udyam Registration data through Application programming interface (API), easing policy making and targeted distribution of scheme benefits.
iv. MoMSME and Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) signed a MoU for giving guarantee coverage to the beneficiaries of the MSME sector.
v. National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) & National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) signed a MoU to promote mutual collaboration for supporting Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribes (ST) entrepreneurs under National SC-ST Hub and various schemes being implemented by NSFDC and NSTFDC.
vi. NSIC, LG Electronics India Private Limited, and Electronics Sector Skill Council of India signed a MoU to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) by LG Electronics in NTSC Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Hyderabad (Telangana).
Highlights:
i. The significance of the MSMEs in India’s Gross domestic product (GDP) and exports were emphasised and expecting MSME’s contribution of India’s GDP to 50% by 2030.
ii. All the stakeholders were congratulated and encouraged to take steps towards achieving India a USD5 trillion economy.
Note: Since 2014, India’s GDP ranking has climbed from 10th to 5th position.
