Hurun India list Reliance most valuable private company in IndiaAccording to the2022 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500: a Six Month Update released on 20th June 2023, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) topped as India’s most valuable company with a value of Rs 16.37 lakh crore followed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) with Rs 11.76 lakh crore and HDFC Bank with Rs 9.41 lakh crore.

Note:

i. The total value of the top 10 companies in the report remains unchanged at Rs.5 lakh crore (USD 874 billion), which is equivalent to 37% of India’s Gross domestic product (GDP) and 34% of the total value of the 2022 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500.

ii. 7 among the top 10 are headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Ranking process: 

i. The companies required a minimum value of Rs.5,500 crore, equivalent to USD 672 million to feature on the report.

ii. The Special Report is a list of the 500 most valuable companies that are headquartered in India. Government/ State-owned companies and subsidiaries of foreign companies are excluded.

Key Points:

The value of the top 500 companies in the report decreased by 6.4% to Rs 212 lakh crore from Rs 227 lakh crore as on 30th October 2022.

  • Around 287 companies declined during the review period while 14 companies remained flat and 24 dropped out from the list.

During the 6 months, the value of RIL decreased by 5.1%(Rs 87,721 crore), while TCS value has increased by 0.7% and HDFC bank value has increased by 12.9%.

Key Highlights:

i. Serum Institute of India has topped the list of most valuable unlisted companies with a value of Rs 1.92 lakh crore followed by National Stock Exchange of India(NSE) with a value of Rs 1.65 lakh crore and BYJU’s with a value of Rs 69,100 crore.

ii. In terms of geographical distribution, the companies featured on the list comefrom 15 states, led by Maharashtra (191), Karnataka (63) and Tamil Nadu (44) followed by Delhi(40), and Haryana(36).

  • Mumbai (Maharashtra) tops the list of cities with 155, followed by Bengaluru (Karnataka) with 62 and New Delhi (Delhi) with 40 and Chennai (Tamil Nadu) with 39.

iii. In the biggest gainers (by percentage), the companies featured on the list was led by New Delhi (Delhi) -based Jindal Stainless (213.3%) followed by Lloyds Metals and Energy (93.1%) and Finolex Cables (71.1%).

iv. And thebiggest gainers (by Indian Rupees in Crores) were occupied by HDFC Bank (Rs.1,07,730), ITC (Rs.97,323), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (Rs. 59,328).

v. In the Industry Distribution side, Financial Services led the list in terms of value created, with more than one-fifth of the cumulative value (21.9%) followed by Software & Services (12.8%) and Healthcare (8.3%).

  • Financial Services and Healthcare were the biggest contributors with 72 and 60 companies respectively.
  • The Top 5 industries made up nearly half of the list.

vi.In the Most Valuable Company category, Tata Group topped the list with 15 companies (TCS as the most Valuable Company), followed by Adani group with 8 companies (Adani Enterprises as the most valuable company) and Aditya Birla Group with 5 companies (Grasim Industries as the most valuable company).
