World Day of Fight Against Sexual Exploitation is annually observed across the globe on 4th March to create awareness about preventing sexual exploitation and to provide support to victims of sexual abuse.
- Since 2009, March 4th has been designated World Day of the Fight Against Sexual Exploitation.
Sexual exploitation:
i.Sexual exploitation is a global issue that denies basic human rights(the right to freedom, dignity, and control over one’s own body).
ii.It happens in almost every community and affects people of all genders and ages. Nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men are victims of rape.

Key Points
i.According to United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), more than 3 million children across the globe are affected by prostitution, and nearly a million people are sexually exploited every year.
ii.The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has estimated that around a million people are trafficked every year for purposes of sexual exploitation.
98% of these are women and girls, this number also includes a significant number of boys and young men.
iii.According to the ILO, human trafficking for sexual exploitation makes between USD 7 billion and USD 12 billion a year on the initial “sale”.
