World Quality Week(WQW) is annually observed across the globe on the 2nd week of November to celebrate quality achievements, and recognise the quality professionals that use conscience in their decision-making at every level.
World Quality Week 2022 is celebrated from 7th to 11th November 2022
- World Quality Week 2021 was observed from 8th to 12th November 2021.
- World Quality Week 2023 will be observed from 6th to 10th November 2023.
The theme of World Quality Week 2022 is “Quality Conscience: Doing the Right Thing”
WQW is the flagship brand awareness campaign of the Chartered Quality Institute(CQI) to celebrate the quality management profession.
Background:
i.The Chartered Quality Institute (CQI), a business entity based in London, United Kingdom(UK) founded in 1919, declared the 2nd Thursday of November every year as World Quality Day.
ii.In 2021, the CQI has expanded the one-day celebration of quality management “World Quality Day” into a week-long event “World Quality Week”.
Observance of World Quality Day:
World Quality Day is observed on the 2nd Thursday of November as “World Quality Day”.In some parts of the world, the observance of World Quality Month – November, accompanies the observance of World Quality Day.
Quality:
According to (International Organization for Standardization) ISO 9001, the most widely adopted quality management systems standard in the world, quality is defined as ‘The degree to which a set of inherent characteristics of an object fulfils requirements.
The 7 principles of ISO 9001 quality management are:
- Engagement of people.
- Customer focus.
- Leadership.
- Process approach.
- Improvement.
- Evidence-based decision making.
- Relationship management.
The importance of building a reputation for quality includes Customer satisfaction; Reputation; Meeting standards; Reducing costs and increasing profitability
Standard Organizations:
ISO: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international nongovernmental organization that develops and publishes international standards.
QCI: Quality Council of India (QCI) was set up as a Public-Private Partnership(PPP) model on the model existing in the Netherlands at the time, where although the NAB was not owned by the government. It was established as the National body for accreditation on recommendations of the Expert Mission of the European Union(EU).
QCI was established following the consultations in the Inter-ministerial Task Force, Committee of Secretaries and Group of Ministers through a Cabinet decision in 1996.
