World Usability Day (WUD), also known as Make Things Easier Day, is annually observed across the globe on the 2nd Thursday in November to promote the values of usability, usability engineering, user-centred design, universal usability, and every user’s responsibility to ask for better things.
World Usability Day 2022 falls on 10th November 2022.
- World Usability Day 2021 was observed on 11th November 2021.
- World Usability Day 2023 will be observed on 9th November 2023.
The Theme of World Usability Day 2022 is ’Our Health’.
- This theme seeks to explore healthcare systems in various forms, including virtual, electronic health records, healthcare goods, and other digital health-related solutions.
Background:
i. World Usability Day was established by the Usability Professionals Association, which is now known as the User Experience Professionals Association (UXPA) in 2005.
- The day was founded to ensure that the services and products important to life are easier to access and simpler to use.
ii. The 1st World Usability Day was observed on 10th November 2005.
World Usability Initiative (WUI):
i. World Usability Initiative (WUI), a United Nations initiative, as an extension of WUD, will strive for more coordinated events, collaborations, and spaces for fostering inclusion through good, universally accessible user experiences.
- It is designed to be self-sustaining. Funding for infrastructure and related projects would come from local organizers getting local funding, a model that has been working for World Usability Day (WUD) since 2005.

ii. WUI will be integrated into the activity of the United Nations, specifically the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.
iii. World Usability Day was created to unite professional groups, citizens, and government groups around a single goal:
- To ensure that the services and products important to life are easier to access and simpler to use
Design Challenge:
i. The Design Challenge (DC) supports the World Usability Initiative (WUI) in its mission to obtain recognition of the value of user focus in design work.
ii. The WUI DC is in collaboration with the Human-Computer Interaction International (HCII) conference, which sponsors 3 awards (Gold USD 1250, Silver USD 1000 and Bronze USD 750).
