On 15th August 2022, the 75th anniversary of India’s independence Karnataka Chief Minister (CM) Basavaraj Bommai has launched new schemes on sanitation, nutrition and schemes for well-being of farmers, labourers and soldiers
- The 76th Independence Day event in Karnataka was held at the Manekshaw Parade Ground.
Outcomes of the event:
Education:
i.The ‘Raitha Vidya Nidhi’ for farmers’ children will also be extended to the landless agricultural labourers.
- Raita Vidya Nidhi scheme, for the first-time launched with an aim at promoting education for farmers’ children under which, a scholarship of Rs 439.95 crore has been distributed to around 10.03 lakh children.
- Later, the scheme was also extended to weavers, fishermen and yellow board taxi drivers’ children.
ii.With the opening 4,050 new anganwadis, children of 16 lakh families would be benefited with nutrition and early education and job opportunity will also be created for 8,100 women.
Other Schemes:
i.Karnataka has contributed at least USD 1 trillion for empowering the state towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s transforming India into a USD 5 trillion economy.
ii.In Order to create a clean and hygienic environment, the Government has invested Rs 250 crore for achieving 100 percent toilet coverage in government schools and colleges.
iii.A loan-cum-subsidy scheme up to Rs 50,000 will be launched to support potters, blacksmiths, carpenters, sculptors, Bhajantri, basket weavers, Vishwakarmas, Madars and other artisans.
Soldiers Welfare:
Government job will be provided to 1 member of the deceased soldier’s family, if he dies on duty, on compassionate grounds to provide security to his family and Rs 25 lakh amount will be immediately transferred.
Recent related news:
In June 2022, Karnataka launched the ‘Kashi Yatra’ with a project outlay of Rs. 7 crore. The project provides Rs. 5000 cash to each of the 30,000 pilgrims, who are willing to take up a pilgrimage to Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh (UP).
