2 day 6th edition of Bengal Global Business Summit – 2022 (BGBS) held in Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, New Town, Kolkata, West Bengal (WB) on April 20-21, 2022.During the summit, WB received investment proposals of Rs 3.42 lakh crore & the WB state has signed a total of 137 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and Letters of Intent (LoI).
About Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS):
BGBS-2022 organized by Government of West Bengal & West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Limited (WBIDC).
i.The BGBS is an ideal platform for forging alliances, tie up partnerships, and acquiring a clear vision of the opportunities that the state provides for expanding business, making new investments, setting up green field manufacturing projects and associated activities.
- The business proposed in the earlier five editions of BGBS amounts to Rs 12,35,578 crore.
ii.BGBS-2022
- The two days summit was attended by 4,300 participants from 42 countries.
- The summit also creates 40 lakh new jobs across sectors.
- Setting up of a task-force under the Chief Secretary for speedy implementation of projects.

Developments Discussed On Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS):
i.Set up of a deep sea port and a shale gas exploration policy would be framed in the near future.
ii.Sessions held on ease of doing business, launched portals on Silpa Saathi (for industries), export facilitation and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), along with a book on Geographical Indications (GI)-tagged products from West Bengal.
iii.Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) and Letters of Intent (LoI):
- 7 universities (four state-run and three private universities) of West Bengal have signed 15 MoUs with International and National Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).
- Jadavpur University (JU) has signed an MoU with University of Warsaw (Poland) for knowledge transfer, academic collaboration and student mobility in social science.
- Calcutta University (CU) has signed MoUs with University College London (UCL) for joint research programmes in development of software tools for low cost diagnostics.
- Presidency University has signed an MoU with Jamshedpur-based Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research in the field of Earth Science for mentoring of research scholars and studentship programmes.
- Among private universities, Sister Nivedita University signed an MoU with Okayama University of Japan for development of healthcare industry and knowledge transfer.
Adani Group Invests Rs 10,000 Crore in West Bengal:
Adani Group invests Rs 10,000 crore in West Bengal for world-class port infrastructure, state of art data centres and undersea cables that will connect them across the oceans, centres of excellence in digital innovation, warehouses and logistics parks.
- It also boosts employment for 25,000 employees.
