The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio of Delhi has presented the budget of Rs 75,800 crore for the Financial Year (FY) 2022-23. The budget focused on employment, education, health sector and farmers.
i.The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has been increased from Rs 6,16,085 crore in 2016-17 to Rs 9, 23,967 crore during 2021-22 which said to be grew by 50 % in five years.
ii.According to the Economic Survey of Delhi 2021-22, Delhi ranks third in per capita income with Rs 4,01,982 in fiscal 2021-22 behind Sikkim and Goa.
About The Budget 2022-23:
i.The budget is also known as ‘Rozgar budget‘, which means ‘employment’.
ii.The size of the 2022-23 budget is 9.86 percent higher than the budget of previous year 2021-22 of Rs 69,000 crore and that was called the ‘Deshbhakti‘ (patriotism) budget.
iii.The government’s tax revenue (Goods and Service Tax, Value Added Tax) is expected at Rs 47,700 crore.
iv.673 seats have been reserved for students who excelled in ‘Business Blasters’ programme
Developments From The Budget 2022-23:
i.Employment
- Rs 4,500 crore has been allocated by the government to generate 20 lakh jobs in the next 5 years and Rs 800 crore will be set aside for the 2022-23 budget.
- Introducing mobile application “Rozgar Bazaar 2.0” which aims to provide one lakh jobs every year to the youngsters particularly women.
- Providing employment to 3 lakh people through virtual ‘Delhi Bazar portal’.
ii.Health
- Rs 9,669 crore has been allotted for the health sector.
- Where Rs 1,900 crore has been proposed to upgrade the state-run hospitals and Rs 475 crore has been allocated for the set-up of “Mohalla Clinics” and polyclinics for diagnostic services and essential medicines at free of cost
iv.Infrastructure:
- Increasing the drinking water by 10 percent and also cleaning the Yamuna river by 2025.
- Smart urban farming will be promoted and combined with the Pusa Institute, to develop skill and entrepreneurship.
- Setting-up of an electronic city at Baprola to create 80,000 jobs by attracting Information Technology (IT) companies.
v.Power Generation
- The government plans to add 25,000 e-autos and install rooftop solar plants to increase the capacity by 2,500-megawatt.
- Delhi has the cheapest electricity rates in the country and that 91.4 per cent of households availed power subsidy in 2020-21.
