Arunachal cabinet adopts ‘Pakke Declaration’

The government of  Arunachal Pradesh (AP) approved the ‘Pakke Tiger Reserve 2047 Declaration on Climate Change Resilient and Responsive Arunachal Pradesh’, which aims to promote “climate-resilient development” in the state. The announcement is the first of its kind by any state government in the country.

  • For the first time, the State’s Cabinet meeting was conducted outside the capital Itanagar, at Pakke Tiger Reserve, where the ‘Pakke Declaration’ was adopted.

Key points:

i.The ‘Pakke Declaration’ focuses on  a multi-sectoral approach to low-emission and climate-resilient development based on five broad themes, or Panch Dharas.

ii.The Panch Dharas resting on 75 strategies include-

  • Environment, forest, and climate change,
  • Health and well-being of all,
  • Sustainable and adaptive living,
  • Livelihoods and opportunities,
  • Evidence generation and collaborative action.

iii.The CM also launched the “e-Cabinet portal”, which aims to make the functioning of the government work paperless.

‘Kaiser-i-Hind’ declared as State Butterfly of  Arunachal Pradesh

A rare butterfly species named Kaiser-e-Hind (Teinopalpus imperialis), was chosen as the State Butterfly of Arunachal Pradesh.

  1. Arunachal Pradesh also renamed the Department of Environment and Forest (DE&F) as the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (DE&FCC).
  • The ‘Kaiser-e-Hind’ which means ‘Emperor of India’. This butterfly has a wingspan of 90-120mm. It is mainly found in 6 Northeastern states of India along the Eastern Himalayas.
