World Arthritis Day(WAD) is annually observed across the globe on October 12th to create awareness about the existence and impacts of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases(RMDs).Arthritis is a term used for more than 100 joint-related diseases, which causes swelling in or around a joint, resulting in pain, stiffness, and sometimes difficulty moving.12th October 2021 marks the observance of the 25th WAD.
Background:
In 1996, the Arthritis and Rheumatism International (ARI) established World Arthritis Day(WAD), as a global initiative to raise awareness of issues affecting people with RMDs.
EULAR Campaigns 2021 – Don’t Delay, Connect Today: Time2work:
EULAR – European Alliance of Association for Rheumatology, formerly the European League Against Rheumatism, launched the Europe-wide campaign entitled “Don’t Delay, Connect Today” in 2017.
EULAR celebrates WAD 2021 focusing on its Campaign entitled “Don’t Delay, Connect Today: Time2Work”.
Objective:
- To support people with RMDs access work for the first time, remain in work when they develop an RMD or return to work after rehabilitation.
- To promote the adoption of other initiatives that not only help people with RMDs but all workers.
Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases(RMDs):
i.Musculoskeletal conditions comprise more than 150 conditions that commonly affect the t joints, bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and muscles of individuals.
ii.RMDs are characterized by pain and a consequent reduction in the range of motion and function in one or more areas of the musculoskeletal system.
iii.Arthritis, which means joint inflammation, is a part of rheumatic diseases that involves joint pain, joint stiffness, joint inflammation, and joint damage.
