Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi declared the 14th August as the “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day” to acknowledge the difficulties faced by the Indians during the partition of India in 1947.
The day aims to remind the people that hatred and violence is never a solution and inspire them to work towards social harmony and sensitivity.
- 14th August 2021 is the first-ever Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.
- The 14th August is celebrated as Independence day in Pakistan.
1947 Partition of India:
i.In 1947, the British colonial rule divided India into 2 self-governing independent nations, India and Pakistan.
ii.The partition was outlined in the Indian Independence Act 1947 and resulted in the dissolution of the British Raj.
iii.The partition resulted in the displacement of around 10 to 20 million people along the religious lines.
iv.The partition of India does not cover the secession of Bangladesh From Pakistan in 1971.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the mentor of BJP, observed August 14 as Akhand Bharat Divas or Unified India Day.
