A webinar was held on the occasion of World Biofuel Day i.e. on August 10, 2021 where ‘Organic Waste Streams for Industrial Renewable Energy Applications in India’, a GEF-MNRE-UNIDO project, launched its financial scheme and GIS (Geographic Information System) Waste Mapping tool. These were launched by Dinesh Dayanand Jagdale Joint Secretary, MNRE.
- MNRE is acronym for Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
- GEF stands for Global Environment Facility
- UNIDO is United Nations Industrial Development Organization
About Financial Scheme:
MNRE launched a loan interest subvention scheme in collaboration with UNIDO and GEF to provide financial assistance for innovative waste to energy biomethanation projects and business models. This will reduce the financial burden on beneficiaries.
GIS Waste Mapping tool
A GIS-based inventory tool of organic waste streams was developed under the, above mentioned, GEF-MNRE-UNIDO project. It provides district level estimates of available urban and industrial organic wastes and their energy generation potential across India.
- It will enable SMEs (Small & Medium Enterprises) and project developers to set up new waste to energy projects.
Other Participants:
Dr Rene Van Berkel, UNIDO Representative, Regional Office in India; and Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), IREDA (Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency)
