On July 15, 2021, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered grievance management application called тАШCPGRAMS (Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System) appтАЩ, it was developed by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) along with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kanpur.
- This web-based application is the 1st system developed based on AI, data science, and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to improve the public grievance redressal system of the Government.
- The AI-enabled CPGRAMS app would be more beneficial to analyse and address the lakh of complaints that are received on CPGRAMS, the web-based system over NICNET (National Informatics Centre Network).
Salient Features:
i.The AI tool of the app has the ability to understand the content of the peopleтАЩs complaints (grievances) and would automatically analyse it.
ii.It would automatically categorize the content based on its meaning and identify the repeated complaints or spam.
iii.It could also make a geographical analysis of complaints and find whether the complaint was adequately addressed or not by the concerned office. It also reduces human intervention, saves time and ensures transparency under grievances disposal.
iv.Background: In August 2020, A Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between IIT Kanpur, MoD and Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) to develop AI and ML Techniques to conduct analysis of Public Grievances received on the CPGRAMS.
Note – CPGRAMS is the online web-based system over NICNET, it was developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC) in association with DARPG and the Directorate of Public Grievances (DPG).
Participants: Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions; Ajay Kumar, Defence Secretary; V Srinivas, Additional Secretary, DARPG; Nivedita Shukla Verma, Additional Secretary MoD; and Abhay Karandikar, IIT Kanpur Director, have participated in the launch.
