SAP & UNDP to Foster Digital Skills, Social Entrepreneurship to Empower Women & Youth in Karnataka

SAP Labs India and the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) India have collaborated with the Government of Karnataka to enhance access to career guidance, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities and to promote the digital skills to empower the women and youths of Karnataka.

• As part of the World Youth Skills Day (WYSD 2021) celebration on 15th July 2021, Manjushree, IAS, Mission Director of National Livelihood Mission in Karnataka Initiated the “Code Unnati” registration drive for women.

Objective:

To impart digital literacy to women and youth from rural Karnataka.

Code Unnati in Karnataka:

i.Code Unnati works with academia, government institutions at the state and district level, incubation centres, civil societies and others to create a sustainable impact.

ii.The ‘code unnati’ is set to reach more than 20000 youths and 5000 women in Bangalore Rural, Raichur, and Dakshina Kannada districts in the next three years.

iii.The programme will also provide 15000 students with digital skills training along with Entrepreneurship Development Programmes in the targeted districts.

iv.The project will create awareness about the different vocations, industry and professional linkages, and employee volunteering.

Initiatives of Code Unnati:

i.Provide digital literacy, entrepreneurial skills and digital financial education for women and youths.

ii.Connect the youths of the state with the government incubation centres and provide opportunities to participate in design thinking workshops, innovation challenges and boot camps.

iii.Provide community-level mentorship and handholding support for the women to start or scale up their micro-enterprises.

On May 26, 2021, Karnataka Chief Minister(CM) B S Yediyurappa, launched an online portal named ‘Akanksha’ to provide comprehensive details on all the Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) activities in the state. It is the first of its kind initiative in India.

• The portal was created by the Department of Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics, Karnataka in collaboration with UNDP’s (United Nations Development Programme) Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC).
