The International Level Crossing Awareness Day(ILCAD) across the globe on 10th June to create awareness on the importance of level crossing safety. The day highlights the importance of educational measures and the promotion of safe behaviour at and around level crossings. 10th June 2021 marks the observance of the 13th ILCAD.
- The theme of ILCAD 2021 is “Distraction” with the motto, “Distraction kills!”.
- 13th ILCAD was officially launched at the International Conference on 10th June 2021 organised by the UIC along with Network Rail.
Background:
i.The International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is an awareness campaign on level crossing safety.
ii.The campaign has been spearheaded by the International Union of Railways (UIC) with the support of railway communities across the globe.
India at 13th ILCAD:
i.India’s South Central Railway(SCR) participated in the global campaign to sensitize road users to enhance safety at level crossings.
ii.The SCR authorities are set to remove the manned level crossing by providing limited height subways(LHS), Road Over Bridges(ROB) and Road Under Bridges(RUBs) in the zone.
