French novelist David Diop won the International Booker Prize 2021 for “At Night All Blood Is Black”.The Book is translated from the French Book titled “Frere d’ame”. It was Translated by Anna Moschovakis.David Diop became the first French writer to win the Award. The Booker Prize Foundation presents the International Booker Prize.
The French Book ‘Frere d’ame’ was written by David Diop and published by Pushkin Press.
- The prize carries a cash award of 50,000 Pound (around Rs 51 lakhs) which will be split between the Writer, David Diop and Translator, Anna Moschovakis.
About At Night All Blood Is Black:
i.“At Night All Blood Is Black” the 2nd novel of David Diop.It was inspired by his Senegalese great-grandfather’s silence about his experiences in World War I(WWI).
ii.At Night All Blood is Black has already won France’s Prix Goncourt des Lycéensm, the Swiss Prix Ahmadou Korouma and Strega European Prize in Italy.
iii.The book is being translated into 13 languages.
About International Booker Prize:
i.The International Booker Prize formerly known as the Man Booker International Prize has been awarded since 2005.
ii.The inaugural Prize was won by Ismail Kadare of Albania.
iii.The 2021 Judge panel consists of Aida Edemariam, Olivette Otele, Neel Mukherjee, George Szirtes and Lucy Hughes-Hallett.
iv.The winner receives £50,000 as well as the £2,500 awarded to each of the six shortlisted authors.
