The United Nations(UN)’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work is annually observed across the globe on 28th April to highlight the prevention of accidents and diseases at work and to raise awareness about occupational safety and health.
On the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2021, ILO released a report titled “Anticipate, prepare and respond to crises: Invest now in resilient Occupational Safety and Health systems”.
- The report examines risk prevention and management related to the pandemic and analyses the other health and safety risks associated with the changing work arrangements rising from virus control measures.

Background:
i.The World Day for Safety and Health at Work was initiated by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2003.
ii.This is an integral part of the Global Strategy on Occupational Safety and Health of the ILO, as documented in the Conclusions of the International Labour Conference in June 2003
Note:
The 28th April is also observed as the International Commemoration Day for Dead and Injured Workers by the Trade Union Movement since 1996.
World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2021:
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2021 focuses on utilising the elements of the OSH system as laid out in the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187).
