The 78th Golden Globes Awards 2021 took place in a Hybrid Format on 28th February 2021. It was the first bi-coastal ceremony, filmed from Los Angeles and New York City, United States of America(USA) hosted by Amy Poehler from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and Tina Fey from New York’s Rainbow Room.
The 78th Golden Globes Awards 2021 was produced by Dick Clark productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association(HFPA).
Nominations:
- The nominees of the 2021 Golden Globe Award were disclosed by Sarah Jessica Parker, six-time Golden Globe winner, and Taraji P. Henson, Golden Globe winner.
- For the first time the nominations were announced over a virtual platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
2021 Golden Globe Ambassadors:
i.Satchel Lee and Jackson Lee, children of filmmakers and three-time Golden Globe Nominee Spike Lee and his wife Tonya Lewis Lee, philanthropist.
ii.Jackson Lee is the first Black male ambassador of Golden Globes.
Key Points:
i.Nomadland by chinese Female director Chloé Zhao won the Best Pictures Drama and Chloé Zhao won the Best Director Motion Picture. Chloe Zhao became the first Asian woman and only the 2nd woman to win the best director award after Barbra Streisand who won the award for “Yentl.” in 1984.
ii.Nomadland became the first film directed by a female to win the award in this category.
iii.Barbra Streisand was the first woman to win the Award(Director) in 1984 for Yentl.
iv.Chadwick Boseman was posthumously honoured with the Best Actor Golden Globe award for his performance in the film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
v.The Crown, a television series, has the highest nominations for any tele series and it has won in 4 categories (Best Drama Series, Best Television Actress, Best Television Actor, Best Supporting Actress).
vi.The 78th Golden Globes 2021 also honoured Jane Fonda with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and Norman Lear with the Carol Burnett Award.
