Swachhta Saarthi Fellowships launched by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser

Swachhta Saarthi FellowshipsOn March 1, 2021, the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India (GoI) under its “Waste to Wealth” Mission launched the “Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship”. These fellowships will recognize students, community workers/self-help groups (SHGs), and municipal/sanitary workers who are working as Swachhta Saarthis to tackle the challenge of waste management, scientifically and sustainably through various initiatives.

Key Points:

–The fellowships are divided into 3 categories:

  • Category-A – Open to School students from 9th to 12th standards engaged in waste management community work
  • Category-B – Open to College students (UG, PG, Research students) engaged in waste management community work
  • Category-C – Open to Citizens working in the community and through SHGs, municipal or sanitary workers working beyond specifications of their job requirement/descriptions

–Under this, applications are invited from students and community workers who have engaged in waste management activities.

–The last date for applying to the fellowship is March 19, 2021 through https://www.wastetowealth.gov.in/fellowship.

Point to be noted:

The Waste to Wealth Mission is one of the nine national missions of the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC). The other 8 are Natural Language Translation, Quantum Frontier, Artificial Intelligence, National Biodiversity Mission, Electric Vehicles, Bioscience for Human Health, Deep Ocean Exploration, and AGNIi.

PM-STIAC – Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council is a principal council that allows the Principal Scientific Adviser’s Office to assess the status in specific science and technology domains, comprehend challenges in hand, formulate specific interventions, develop a futuristic roadmap and advise the Prime Minister accordingly.
