The National Protein Day is annually observed across India on 27th February to create and raise awareness about the importance and health benefits of Protein.
The theme of the National Protein Day 2021 is ‘Powering with Plant Protein’,
The theme aims to focus on plant-based sources of protein – as accessible, affordable, acceptable, and versatile protein sources that are often ignored in a country.
Aim:
To grow the knowledge of citizens about different types of sources and their importance in daily meals for better nutrition and health.
Background:
‘Right To protein’ a national level public health initiative launched the National Protein Day in India.
The first National Protein Day in India was observed on 27th February 2020.
Events 2021:
i.As a part of the 2nd National Protein Day on 27th February 2021, Right to Protein and Teach for India in association with Nutritionist, Pooja Makhija aims to educate the children and their parents on the overall benefits of adequate intake of protein.
ii.The Right To Protein initiative collaborates with Business Wire India and Teach For India to commemorate the 2nd Protein Day.
iii.Educational session. as Online webinars have been organised for children across India.
iv.The children associated with Teach For India network in Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bangalore will participate along with their parents in the online session

i.According to the Indian Market Research Bureau, more than 80% Indians are protein deficient, indicating that protein deficiency is on the rise in India.
ii.The report of Right to protein reveals that Indians have limited their source of proteins to dal and other basic staples.
