UP Govt To Set Up India's First Leather Park In Kanpur

The Government of Uttar Pradesh(UP) is set to establish India’s First Mega Leather Park in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. This project is expected to generate more than 50000 job opportunities and indirectly provide livelihood to more than 1.5 lakh individuals.

The Union Ministry of Commerce has given approval to the project.

About the Leather Park:

i.The project is set to be built across 235 acres in Ramaipur village, Kanpur at an expense of Rs.5850 crores.

ii.This will attract an investment worth Rs. 13000 crores.

iii.To set up units in the leather park, industrial plots ranging around 4,000 square metres  will be provided to the investors.

iv.More than 150 tanneries will be established in the park and the park will also provide facilities like manufacturing, exhibition areas, hotels and others.

Products:

The leather park will be a hub of leather products like purses, jackets, shoes and others which will be exported to the International markets.

Additional features:

i.Various amenities are built in the park to minimise pollution and ensure the maintenance of overall cleanliness.

ii.To stop the pollution of the Ganga River due to the manufacturing of leather products, a treatment plant will also be sanctioned within the park.

The Forest Department of Uttarakhand has developed India’s First Lichen Park in Munsyari(Munsiyari), Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand as a research centre with over 150 Lichen species – Jurassic Era plant which was inaugurated on 27th June 2020, The development process of the 1.5 acres’ park began in 2019.
