On December 7, 2020, Consulting firm PwC (PriceWaterhouseCoopers) India announced the launch of a strategic collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and YuWaah (Generation Unlimited in India) to upskill 300 million youths in India in the next 10 years.
- It should be noted that in November 2019, UNICEF launched Generation Unlimited aka YuWaah in India is aimed at imparting skills & providing employment to 1.8 billion young people in India in the age bracket of 10-24 years by 2030.
Reason behind the Collaboration:
There are three focus points for digital empowerment among India youngsters’ viz. education, skilling and entrepreneurship. So, in order to boost skill development factor, this collaboration was initiated providing opportunities for those who are lacking behind.
PwC India’s Contribution:
PwC India will be providing support for this Programme across three pillars: economic opportunities and employability, 21st century skilling and learning, and youth engagement.
Key Points:
–According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), India is staring at a 29 million skill deficit by 2030.
–According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate in India is at 6.97% as of October 2020
–Urban areas had an unemployment rate of 7.15%, while rural areas have this rate at 6.9%.
–Around 10 million people in the country have lost their jobs amid Covid-19.
–Notably, India has the largest number of young people in the world with over 450 million people or 65% of the population between the age group of 15 and 35 years.
SAGE Foundation ties up with Rise Infinity, UNICEF MahaPECONet to skill 300 youth
In order to upskill 300 youth from migrant families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Shahani Academic and Global Empowerment (SAGE) Foundation has signed a pact with Rise Infinity Foundation and UNICEF MahaPECONet for their training through online and offline channels.
- UNICEF MahaPECONet is a network of volunteers, corporates, government bodies and organisations that support migrant workers and their families.
- Through this collaboration, we aim to provide job-specific skill training to these underprivileged youth, to enable them obtain entry-level white-collar jobs in the BFSI sector.
