On 24th November 2020, The United Nations (UN)’s World Food Programme(WFP) signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with the Government of Rajasthan for the proposed participation to achieve food and nutritional security goals.
About The LoU:
i.Based on the MoU between the Civil Supply Department and the UN WFP, the WFP authorities signed the LoU with various government departments of Rajasthan to develop the partnership with them.
ii.The WFP signed the LoU with the following departments to achieve the targets of food and nutritional security by taking required support from these departments.
- Women and Child Development,
- School Education, Rural Development
- Tribal Regional Development departments
Background:
i.The LoU was signed based on the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) signed between the Civil Supply Department, government of Rajasthan and the United Nations on 29th October 2020 to work together to achieve food security and improved nutrition in Rajasthan and to progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal 2.
ii.This MoU will be effective between 2020 – 2023, with a focus on improving the food and nutrition of the vulnerable population of the state, mainly children and women.
