Tamil Nadu won the first place in the Union ministry of Jal Shakti’s 2nd National Water Awards for 2019 under the best state (normal) category for the conservation and management of water. K Manivasan, PWD Secretary will receive the Best State Award on behalf of Tamil Nadu Government.

2nd National Water Awards for 2019:
i.The Awards will be presented during the 2-day virtual ceremony on 11th and 12th November 2020 in the presence of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Jal Shakti and Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
ii.Around 98 awards in 16 different categories will be presented during the virtual event.
Other Awards of Tamil Nadu:
i.Vellore and Karur districts of Tamil Nadu secured the 1st and 2nd position under the category of Revival of River.
ii.Perambalur district secured the 2nd position under the category of Water Conservation at national level.
iii.Sasthavinathur village panchayat in Thoothukudi district secured the 1st place under the Water Conservation category for the South.
iv.Madurai Corporation secured the 1st prize under the Best Urban Local Body which took water conservation efforts.
v.Hari Kuppuswamy, ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore; T Pradeep, IIT-Madras and Va Tech Wabag Limited, Sunnambu Kolathur, Chennai secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively under the Best Research/Innovation/adaptation of New Technology for Water Conservation category.
vi.Manikandan, Coordinator, Kovai Kulangal Pathukappu Amaippu, Coimbatore and Professor Sakthinathan Ganapathy Pandian, CWG Campus, Anna University secured the first and second positions under the Best Water Warrior category in South Zone.
Note:
Indira Gandhi Government High School, Katterikuppam, Puducherry secured the 1st place in the ‘Best School’ category.
National Water Award:
i.The Groundwater Augmentation Awards and the National Water Awards were launched in 2007 to encourage the stakeholders (individuals or organisations) for adopting innovation practices of groundwater augmentation and conservation and management of water.
ii.The first National Water Awards for the year 2018 was organised and felicitated on 25th February 2019 at New Delhi.
