Singapore became the World’s First Country to attach Facial verification in the National Identification Database. The function is called “SingPass Face Verification”.
Using “SingPass Face Verification” a number of Government services can be accessed online.
Key Points:
i.It is being rolled out to the city-state’s SingPass digital identity scheme.
ii.The SingPass digital identity scheme provides access to 400 online services which includes tax declarations, and public housing applications.
iii.The facial recognition is designed to work in computers, tablets, cell phones and public kiosks.
iv.The facial recognition system will be fundamental to Country’s digital economy.
v.It will identify a person and also ensure that a person is genuinely present in front of their screen rather than a photograph, video or a replayed recording or a Deepfake.
Implementation Agencies:
The facial verification scheme has been implemented by IProov and Toppan Ecquaria for Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech). Govtech is the government agency of Singapore’s digital government transformation and smart nation initiative.
