Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas was observed throughout the country on October 15, 2020. It is celebrated to recognise the contribution of women farmers in various aspects of agriculture.
It was decided in 2016 that every year 15th October will be celebrated as “Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas” by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas 2020:
i.Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC & FW) organized Mahila Kisan Diwas 2020 in virtual mode.Â
ii.The Event was guided by Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar. It was also attended by Minister of State (MoS) for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Parshottam Rupala and other senior officers of the Department of Agriculture.Â
iii.An e-book on ‘Inspiring Stories of Progressive Women Farmers’ was released.
iv.Two Short Films ‘Mahila Krishak and her Contribution in Agriculture’ & ‘Global Examples of Successful Women Farmers’ were launched during the event.Â
v.The Union Minister emphasized the significant contribution of women farmers and women Self Help Groups (SHGs) to boost the rural economy.Â
Farmer Centric Schemes of Government:
Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agarwal highlighted the farmer centric schemes of Government of India such as Kisan Credit Card and Farmer Producer Organizations to promote the livelihood of the rural community.Â

i.May 7, 2020, Narendra Singh Tomar has informed that the government will run a mission mode awareness campaign in FY2020-2021 in over 1 lakh villages for promoting use of bio/organic fertilisers and reducing consumption of chemical soil nutrients.
ii.On 29th August, 2020 Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the College, Administration Buildings of Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh through video conference.
