On October 6, 2020 In order to implement a new initiative, Indo-German Initiative for Technical Education(IGnITE), Telangana government has signed a tripartite agreement between Department of Employment and Training(DET), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), India and Siemens Limited, India in presence of Ch Malla Reddy, Minister of labour and Employment. The initiative focuses on industry’s need and practices and training the trainees.
Key Info
i.The initiative focuses on 12 government Industrial Training Institutes(ITIs) namely, ITI Musheerabad, Mallepally among others in 5 select trades, namely Electrician, Electronics, Mechanic, Fitter, Turner, Machinist in the pilot stage in Telangana.
ii.The initiative can be expanded to 20 ITIs.
iii.In telangana there are a total 64 govt ITIs and 235 private ITIs with 73,378 trainees in 32 different trades.
About the Project
i.The project aims to increase the employability and also to improve practical skills of 40,000 trainees in ITIs across 10 states in 4 years(2020-2024).
ii.Its objective includes the following namely,
- Improve training pedagogy of the instructors of the ITIs
- Engage industry association, to become an active stakeholder in the vocational development ecosystem
- Train in-company trainers in order to become mentors and facilitate trainees to undergo in-plant training in a month in 1st year and 2 months in 2nd year.

i.One of the key objectives of the NAtional Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015 is Speed large scale skilling with high standards
ii.Govt ITIs are the only Govt funded institutionalized ecosystem for vocational training.
