On September 25, 2020 West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) and UK (United Kingdom) India Business Council (UKIBC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate industrial development in West Bengal.
The MoU was signed at a virtual roundtable in the presence of Vandana Yadav, Secretary, Industry, Commerce & Enterprises Department & Managing Director of WBIDC, Government of West Bengal, Kevin McCole, Managing Director, UKIBC and Nick Low, Deputy High Commissioner, British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata.
Key Points:
i.The MoU will boost business and industrial development by developing the business environment and strengthening collaboration with British Business Enterprises in West Bengal.
ii.UKIBC will support interactions between UK businesses and State Government to provide direct feedback on ease of doing business, market access and other issues.
iii.They will continue in the form of dialogues, annual ministerial meetings and delegation visits.
iv.Many UK Businesses including BT, Diageo, HSBC and Standard Chartered are significant investors in West bengal.
