On 23rd September 2020, Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister (CM) of Assam launched the “Mukhyamantri Grammya Paribahan Achoni” – Chief Minister’s Rural Transport Scheme and distributed light motor vehicles to the beneficiaries under this scheme.
Sonowal announced this scheme during his 2019 Independence Day speech and following the announcement the Transport department of Assam launched the scheme.

K.K Dwivedi, Commissioner and Secretary of Transport Department along with Adil Khan, Transport Commissioner were present during the launch event.
Aim:
- To improve the rural connectivity and to bridge the connectivity gap in the villages of Assam.
- To generate employment in the villages
Features:
i.Under this scheme a light motor vehicle will be provided to one beneficiary per village.
ii.The government will provide the 25% cost of the vehicle or Rs.1 lakh (whichever is less) to the entrepreneurs who are eligible for this scheme.
iii.The vehicles provided under this scheme will improve the connectivity and support the situations of medical emergencies.
iv.The first phase of the scheme with a financial outlay of Rs.100 crore would cover around 10000 villages across the state
v.With the subsequent phases, it is expected to cover all the 26000 villages under the scheme.
