Atal Innovation Mission Launches Aatmanirbhar Bharat ARISE-ANIC InitiativeOn September 09, 2020, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog launched Aatmanirbhar Bharat ANIC-ARISE Challenges (Atal New India Challenges in Applied Research and Innovation for medium and Small Enterprises) to stimulate applied research and innovation in Indian Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and startups. 

It will be driven by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and four ministries namely Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to facilitate innovative solutions to sectoral problems. 

Key Points:

i.The ARISE–ANIC programme will support applied research–based innovations by providing funding support of up to Rs 50 lakh for speedy development of the proposed technology solution or the  product.

ii.The main objective of the programme is to collaborate with Ministries and associated industries to catalyse research, innovation and give innovative solutions to sector problems.

iii.The Central Government Ministries, Departments will be the potential first buyers of the innovative products & solutions.

iv.It is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mandate of “Make in India”, “Startup India”, “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” to fast track the growth of Indian MSME sector.

Aim to enhance MSME contribution to GDP from 30% to 50% : MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for MSME, Nitin Gadkari aims to enhance the MSME contribution to GDP from 30% to 50% and in exports from 49% to 60%.  

i.The Government of India aims to create 5 crore additional jobs in the MSME sector which employs 11 crore people at present.

ii.The Growth of the country will be further accelerated when backward and tribal areas including 115 aspirational districts are brought on a growth trajectory.
