PM released AIR copy of ‘Ramcharitmanas’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a special digital version of epic Ramcharitmanas produced by All India Radio but two years ago, the Prasar Bharati Board had red-flagged such a move.
- It has taken more than 30 years to get all the work recorded and digitally restored when the process of digitisation started in Prasar Bharati in 2005.
- In the late 1970s under Bhopal station director Samar Bahadur Singh and later, director E.M. Joseph, who got AIR staff artists and folk artists to give music to Ramcharitmanas, and this was aired on radio stations in the North.
- The Ramcharitmanas was composed and recorded for the first time in 1980 at Akashvani Bhopal.
- The Prime Minister also felicitated 7 leading artists of the Bhopal Gharana who have sung the recordings of Goswami Tulsidas’ work.

India, US plan MoU to crack down on fake note network
India and United States are working together to sign on a proposed MoU that will allow both countries to blacklist currency material manufacturers found supplying currency printing machines, material or services to a country or entity known to be printing counterfeit bank notes.
- As per the MoU, counterfeiting of currency shall be declared as an instrument for hitting monetary and financial stability of a country.
- The action points proposed in the MoU are sharing of real-time information on sources of materials used in printing fake bank notes, especially the detailed analysis of the chemical composition of ink used to print Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).
- Currency material manufacturers (CMM) all over the world are proposed to be brought under certain safeguards, standards and obligations on the basis of reciprocity between India and the US.
- Any CMM associated with sale, manufacture and trade of currency printing machine, equipment, services and consumables, if found supplying these to a country known to be printing fake bank notes, is proposed to be blacklisted by both COU.
Pakistan bans Islamic State militant group
The Islamic State (IS) militant group which has undertaken vast stretches of Iraq and Syria in its control has been banned by Pakistan after repeatedly denying the dreaded outfit’s presence within its territory.
- The decision was taken on recommendation of the Foreign Office, which regularly updates the Pakistan government about international militant groups banned by the United Nations.
- Banners and graffiti in support of Islamic State (IS), also known as Daesh in Arabic, have often appeared in Pakistan but the government has until now rejected its presence inside the country.
- Following the death of Taliban leader Mullah Muhammad Omar, the IS has become particularly powerful in Afghanistan.

Mountaineer Jot Singh awarded Tenzing Norgay National Adventure award
President Pranab Mukherjee awarded the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2015 to Indo-Tibetan Border Police official and mountaineer Jot Singh.
- Singh, has been undertaking expeditions with the border guarding force for a long time, was decorated with the award during the national games awards presentation ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- Inspector Jot Singh became 11th ITBP official to receive this honour till date.
- ITBP is India’s mountain-trained armed force and also known as special force for mountaineering skills. The mountain-trained force has been deployed primarily to guard high altitude Indo-China border since 1962.
- The force has scaled more than 200 peaks across the globe successfully and Inspector Jot Singh is one of the best mountaineers of ITBP, who has also scaled the Mount Everest.

Ian Bell Retires From ODIs
Ian Bell, the 33-year-old England’s record ODI run-scorer, with 5,416 runs in 161 matches has announced his retirement from One Day Internationals in order to completely devote his focus and attention towards his Test cricket.
- Bell has played 115 Tests – only four Englishmen have played more – and scored 7,569 runs at an average of 43 with 22 centuries and 45 fifties. However Bell has endured a difficult year, averaging 24.29 with one hundred.
- Bell is also a five-time Ashes winner.
- He managed only 215 runs at an average of 26.87 in the 3-2 series win against Australia, a record-equaling fifth Ashes triumph for an Englishman.
Wrestler Anil wins gold at World Cadet Championship
India had its second medal in World Cadet Championship with the gold medal of Wrestler Anil in the 50 kg freestyle category.
- Anil’s gold is the second after female grappler Ankus won silver medal in the 38 kg female category on the third day of the Championship.
- In the 2014 Asian Champion, Anil clinched the gold in the 50 kg freestyle category with a convincing 10-6 win over returning world champion Efan Aeini (IRI).
- Anil opened with a quick body tackle and gut wrench for a 6-0 lead less than 20 seconds into the final and then held off the 2014 champion for a 10-6 victory.
Fifteenth IAAF World Championships in Athletics concluded in Beijing
- 15th IAAF World Championships in Athletics was held between 22 August and 30 August 2015 at the Bird’s Nest Stadium at Beijing’s in China.
- It is a biannual event organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) started in 1983.
Important Points:
- 43 nations won medals, 144 of which were awarded.Kenya was at the top with overall 16 medals,Jamaica was at the second position by winning 12 medals and SA was at the third position with 18 medals.
- Till now, India won only 2 medals in the championships. Both were won by long jumper Anju Bobby George(bronze) in the 2003 championships held in Paris and gold medal in the 2005 championships held in Montecarlo, Monaco.
- 14th edition (2013) was held in the Russian capital Moscow and 16th edition (2017) will be hosted by London.

Obituary
Kannada writer M.M. Kalburgi died
M. Kalburgi, age 77, veteran Kannada writer and former Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University, Hampi was shot dead by two unidentified persons at his residence in Dharwad in Kalyan Nagar, Karnataka.
- M. M. Kalburgi was known for his strong stand against superstitious practices and right-wing groups.
- According to his family members, Prof. Kalburgi was speaking on his cellphone when someone knocked on the door of his house. When he opened the door, Prof. Kalburgi was shot at from a point-blank range on his forehead. The bullet pierced through his head.
- Along with Ms. Roopadarshi(daughter), Prof. Kalburgi’s wife, Umadevi, and grandson were in the house when the incident occurred.
- The CCTV camera installed at Kalyan Nagar has recorded the movement of two youths aged between 24 and 28, wearing black clothes and riding a motorcycle, in the area. But it would be premature to say anything now, the sources added.
