On June 24, 2020 Maharashtra Culture Minister Amit Deshmukh announced that Vithabai Narayangaokar lifetime achievement award 2018-19 will be conferred upon the senior tamasha (folk art) artist, Gulabbai Sangamnerkar and Sangeetacharya Annasaheb Kirloskar musical theatre lifetime achievement award will 2019-20 be given to Veteran theatre actress-singer Madhuvanti Dandekar.
- Both the awards carry a cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs, a citation & a memento.
Gulabbai Sangamnerkar
i.Gulabbai Sangamnerkar started to work in the field of Tamasha from the age of 9.
ii.She has appeared in some Hindi films & has also performed some songs in the Lata Mangashekar’s album, ‘Ajolchi Gaani’.
Madhuvanti Dandekar
i.Madhuvanti Dandekar’s theatre career spans more than 5 decades. She has performed in 25 Marathi stage musicals.
ii.She made her career in the classical musicals ‘Mandarmala’, ‘Suvarnatula’, ‘Madanachi Manjiri’ and ‘Dhruvatara’.
iii.She has played major roles in the popular musicals like ‘Ekcha Pyala’ & ‘Krishnarjunayuddha’ among others.
